Introduction: How to Make a Brainwave Manager.

I started this project about one month ago with the goal of being able to alter the human brainwave with a device I created by myself. The main idea behind this was to be able to put someone in a specific state of mind with music and the use of different frequencies. It could help many people by placing them in a better mood for what they need to do. For example, if you feel like you have too many things to worry about and you want to relax you could take a moment to wear this device and after you would feel peaceful and uplifted. To use it, all you need to do is lay down somewhere with the device behind you, place your ears in the holes, and listen to what is coming out of them with your eyes closed.

Step 1: Tools, Materials and Files.

The tools used for this project are really basic, all you need to have is:

- A sharp knife,

- A rag,

- Some sandpaper,

- Duct tape.

- And some hot glue.

For the materials needed, it will cost about 35 Canadian dollars; you can also buy a Mindwave device to see you mind waves in live but it isn't required. You want:

- 2 rectangle flower pot made from plastic, (Be sure that they are bigger than your head and that you will be able to cut through the plastic with your knife.)

- 6 plumbing pipe full coupling parts (See picture one for more information)

- 4 plumbing pipes 45-degree elbow parts (See picture two for more information)

No specific files are needed for this project, you can search for altering brainwaves music on youtube and it should give you pretty good results. In the research bar write something like:

Solfeggio frequencies;

Uplifting/relaxing/etc. frequencies;

Brainwave music;


Step 2: Step 1: Preparing to Insert the Full Coupling Parts in One of the Flower Pot.

Take one of the full coupling parts and place it on the bottom of one of the flower pot. You want one of its edge to be placed on one of the sides that are the most far away from each other. Take a pencil, I personally used a Sharpie, and draw the contours of the coupling part on the flower pot. Do the same thing on the opposite side so it looks like two eyes are staring at you.

Once you are done, take the knife and the rag. With one hand take the knife and place it vertically on one of the circular lines that you draw and with your other hand take the rag and fold it. The rag purpose is to protect your palm when you will hit on the knife to cut the plastic.

Hit the top of the knife with the palm of your hand so that the knife pushes slowly into the plastic pot. Once you feel like you aren't on the line anymore just take the knife out and start again where you stopped last time.

This technique takes longer but is very precise.

When both of the circles are cut it should look like on the picture. You then need to take the sandpaper and scrub the edges so that they feel smooth.

Step 3: Step 2: Assembling the 45-degrees Elbow Joints With the Full Coupling Parts.

Take your 4 45-degree elbow joints. Place them in pair of two. Assemble them so they look like a 90-degrees elbow joint. As a result, you should have two 90-degrees elbow joints (see the picture).

Once you have finished with the 90-degrees elbow joints, take the full coupling parts and divide them into two group. Both of them should have 3 parts. Take the duct tape and make a pipe by placing the full coupling parts on top of one another and making it stick together.

Once you have made the two pipes connect them to the 90-degrees elbow joints so it looks like the picture

Step 4: Step 3: Connect the Pieces to the Flower Pot With the Holes.

Take the extremities with the full coupling parts and insert them into the holes made in the flower pot earlier. They should be about 1/2 - 1 inch in. Make sure that the parts are well connected and solid by using hot glue and duct tape.

Step 5: Step 4: Making the Hole to Insert the Speaker in the Device.

Choose a portative speaker that you know you will be able to use often and that you think works the best and place it in the middle of one of the biggest side of the untouched flower box.

Just as for step one, you will need to draw the contours on the flower box.

Once you are done, take the knife and the rag and by using the same technique cut the shape that you draw.

Make sure the edges are smooth by rubbing them with sandpaper.

Step 6: Step 5: Assembling the Device.

To assemble this device I suggest that you use hot glue and duct tape once again.

Take the two flower pot and place them so it forms a cave inside. On the side that touches each other put some hot glue and make them stick together. Then use duct tape to solidify if needed.

Step 7: Step 6: Making the Soudtracks.

To make a music that will alter your brain waves, you need to know the basics. Here is some information I found on the internet about the different brain waves:

Gamma waves:

These are involved in higher processing tasks as well as cognitive functioning. Gamma waves are important for learning, memory and information processing. It is thought that the 40 Hz gamma wave is important for the binding of our senses in regards to perception and are involved in learning new material. It has been found that individuals who are mentally challenged and have learning disabilities tend to have lower gamma activity than average.

• Frequency range: 40 Hz to 100 Hz (Highest)

• Too much: Anxiety, high arousal, stress • Too little: ADHD, depression, learning disabilities

• Optimal: Binding senses, cognition, information processing, learning, perception, REM sleep

Beta waves:

These are known as high-frequency low-amplitude brain waves that are commonly observed while we are awake. They are involved in conscious thought, logical thinking, and tend to have a stimulating effect. Having the right amount of beta waves allows us to focus and complete school or work-based tasks easily. Having too much beta may lead to us experiencing excessive stress and/or anxiety. The higher beta frequencies are associated with high levels of arousal. When you drink caffeine or have another stimulant, your beta activity will naturally increase. Think of these as being very fast brain waves that most people exhibit throughout the day in order to complete conscious tasks such as critical thinking, writing, reading, and socialization.

• Frequency range: 12 Hz to 40 Hz (High)

• Too much: Adrenaline, anxiety, high arousal, inability to relax, stress

• Too little: ADHD, daydreaming, depression, poor cognition

• Optimal: Conscious focus, memory, problem-solving

Alpha waves:

This frequency range bridges the gap between our conscious thinking and subconscious mind. In other words, alpha is the frequency range between beta and theta. It helps us calm down when necessary and promotes feelings of deep relaxation. If we become stressed, a phenomenon called “alpha blocking” may occur which involves excessive beta activity and very little alpha. Essentially the beta waves “block” out the production of alpha because we become too aroused.

• Frequency range: 8 Hz to 12 Hz (Moderate)

• Too much: Daydreaming, inability to focus, too relaxed • Too little: Anxiety, high stress, insomnia, OCD

• Optimal: Relaxation

Theta waves:

This particular frequency range is involved in daydreaming and sleep. Theta waves are connected to us experiencing and feeling deep and raw emotions. Too much theta activity may make people prone to bouts of depression and may make them “highly suggestible” based on the fact that they are in a deeply relaxed, semi-hypnotic state. Theta has its benefits of helping improve our intuition, creativity, and makes us feel more natural. It is also involved in restorative sleep. As long as theta isn’t produced in excess during our waking hours, it is a very helpful brain wave range.

• Frequency range: 4 Hz to 8 Hz (Slow) • Too much: ADHD, depression, hyperactivity, impulsivity, inattentiveness • Too little: Anxiety, poor emotional awareness, stress

• Optimal: Creativity, emotional connection, intuition, relaxation

Delta waves:

These are the slowest recorded brain waves in human beings. They are found most often in infants as well as young children. As we age, we tend to produce less delta even during deep sleep. They are associated with the deepest levels of relaxation and restorative, healing sleep. They have also been found to be involved in unconscious bodily functions such as regulating heartbeat and digestion. Adequate production of delta waves helps us feel completely rejuvenated after we wake up from a good night’s sleep. If there is abnormal delta activity, an individual may experience learning disabilities or have difficulties maintaining conscious awareness (such as in cases of brain injuries).

• Frequency range: 0 Hz to 4 Hz (Slowest)

• Too much: Brain injuries, learning problems, inability to think, severe ADHD

• Too little: Inability to rejuvenate body, inability to revitalize the brain, poor sleep

• Optimal: Immune system, natural healing, restorative / deep sleep

Once you know that, you can mix them together and get various results. To get samples from these, type their frequency on youtube and download the video soundtrack.

To make a music that will be entertaining to listen, go on youtube once again and type "relaxation music"/ "motivational music"/etc. depending on the type of soundtrack you want to create.

When you have both the different frequencies you need and the music, go on garage band superimpose them. The result will be the soundtrack that will change your brainwaves.

At first, when you use the device, the results will be temporary. They will dissipate after a couple of hours... But if you do it regularly, your brain will start to adopt these brain waves in a certain way and you will feel them much longer.

Step 8: Conclusion

This project I made went pretty well. I tried this device a couple of time myself and it surprisingly works. During the manufacturing things went they way they should have except for certain things... I wasn't able to buy wood for the main compartment of this device so this is why I used flower pot.

To improve my device I would take the time to find wood to make the main compartment the way I wanted it since the beginning. I would also isolate the box so the sound would only get out from the pipes. Finally, I would figure a way to make the device adjustable for any type of head so that anybody can use it.
