Step 1: Prepare Ingredients and Equipment
Ingredients required for dough:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon salted butter
- ½ teaspoon vanilla essence
Items needed for deep frying:
- 2 quarts vegetable oil
- Piping bag with star-shaped nozzle
Optional ingredients and equipment:
- Confectioner's sugar
- Electric mixer
- Nutella
- Knife
- Scissor
Step 2: Make a Dough
- Whisk egg with vanilla essence
- Boil water, sugar and butter in a saucepan
- Turn off the heat after boiling
- Stir in flour until mixture forms a ball
- Tip: Stir as fast as possible to avoid lumpy flour
- Let flour mixture cool down for a few minutes
- Insert egg mixture into flour mixture and beat them evenly
- Tip: Use electric mixture for a better result
Step 3: Start Deep-frying
- Heat 1 - 2 inches oil under medium heat until it reaches 375ºF
- Transfer dough into piping bag with the star-shaped nozzle
- Pipe strips of dough into hot oil using piping bag from above pan
- Warning: Be careful of hot oil when squeezing the dough
- Cut off strips into 3 - 4 inches length using knife or scissor
- Optional: You can cut it into any length that you prefer
- Fry until it turns golden
- Drain on the paper towels
Step 4: Serve
- Spread confectioners' sugars on top of churros
