Introduction: How to Make a Logo

About: As a Sith in the galaxy, he plays Soccer and solves Rubik's Cubes :O

The goal of this Instructable is to show you how to make a logo that communicates the aspects of your product or business.

This Instructable is mainly trying to show what constitutes a logo and how to cultivate ideas that could be implemented into the final logo.

Step 1: Brainstorm

A logo is a symbol, it represents your business and how it feels.

First you need to evaluate the business or product and find any attributes that could be incorporated into the logo.
Suppose you run a cleaning service in Texas named “Diamond Shine Cleaning.”

Now jot down the attributes of your business, and in the case of this example, it could include:

Diamond

Shine (Sparkle)

Texas (The shape of the state, boots, cactus, a star, ect.)

Cleaning supplies (Broom, vacuum cleaner, sponge, etc.

With these ideas, you know have a resource pool that can form your logo.

For this Instructable, I went to www.sharpen.design.com for a logo idea, and it came up with a headphone logo project idea.

Step 2: Form Your Ideas

Immediately the shape of headphone came to mind, so I used Affinity Designer to create a headphone. Affinity Designer is a vector based program. I considered implementing how to use the program, but that needs its own Instructable, comment if you would like one ;) You can pull out a piece of paper and that will do just fine.

I started with a circle and cut it in half. I then duplicated it, flipped it around, and moved it over. Now we have the speakers. I then drew a line to connect them and tweaked the shape a bit.

Now you can add some frills, if it was the "Diamond Shine," you could add a sparkle star. In this case I added sound waves to give the audio effect.

Step 3: Designing

Typography is very important when developing a logo. Typography is using the written language with different fonts, which convey different feelings. A cursive like font shows elegance and thicker smooth fonts will convey fun.

Color plays a major role in a logo. Be careful when choosing your color pallet. Normally you want to chose colors within the same shade, for example, a neon orange with royal blue don't go together very well. But with some creativity, there are ways to combine different colors.

I came up with the name “Rhythm Headphones” and implemented it into the logo. Get creative with the font and try new ideas. In this case, I used upper case for all the letters. Underlines also add some spice. One creative thing you can do is have objects cut into each other. In this example I cut the sound waves in half horizontally and put Rhythm in its place.

If your logo does not use any specific objects, you could try adding some shapes or some type of line to give it more appeal, like the second photo.

Step 4: Conclusion

This type tutorial can't get too specific on how to make a logo, because it depends on what type of business or product the logo is representing. The purpose of this Instructable is to show the thought process involved in developing a logo, and how to apply it. This is not a guide on how to use Affinity Designer.

Logo design is very dependent on imagination, and I hope that this Instructable helped spark some ideas that will help you get the final product you are looking for.
