Introduction: How to Make a MINI RC-Car Based on ‘Hot Wheels’ Car

About: I'm an engineer and a maker.

Using 3D printing technology and an RC module, follow this simple guide to transform your old 1/64-scale Hot Wheels car into a remote-controlled version.

Supplies

Step 1: Select Your Victim “Hot Wheels” Car

Buy a Hot Wheels 2017 Fast and Furious Nissan skyline GT-R R34 from Amazon.

Step 2: Dismantle Model Car for the Build

Remove the cover from the model car cut off the fixed stick and make the over notch bigger with the Dremel rotary tool carefully. Then, cut the car chassis about one-third of the way to the right.

Step 3: Prepare the RC Component Housing

Design an RC component housing using TinkerCAD, then export it as an STL file. Slice the STL file and 3D print the model with PLA filament.

Step 4: Build the RC Components

Stick the window to the car cover with glue. Assemble the two wheels on the RC component frame. Attention, don't tighten the screws too much.

Step 5: Continue the Car Reassembly

Attach the steering wheel to the RC component frame, and complete the RC components along with the steering mechanism.

Step 6: Add LED Lights and Finish the RC Car

Assemble the other two wheels onto the RC component frame, and secure the battery and circuit board. Finally, attach the RC component frame to the car cover.

Step 7: Test the Build and Have Some Fun

Test the RC car by moving it forward and backward.
