Introduction: How to Make a Manhattan
A Manhattan is a cocktail made with bourbon, sweet vermouth and bitters. A staple in every bartender's recipe book, this cocktail has several different variations. Follow these simple steps to learn how to make a traditional Manhattan drink.
Step 1: What You Need
Ingredients Needed
- Bourbon (For this recipe Four Roses is used)
- Sweet Vermouth
- Cocktail bitters (For this recipe Angostura bitters)
- Cherries
- Ice
Tools Needed
- Cocktail shaker
- Drink strainer
- Bar spoon
- Jigger
- Bourbon Glass
Step 2: Add Vermouth
Use jigger to measure out 3/4 oz. of sweet vermouth. Pour sweet vermouth into cocktail shaker.
Step 3: Add Bourbon
Use jigger to measure out 2 oz. of bourbon. Pour bourbon into cocktail shaker.
Step 4: Add Cocktail Bitters
Pour three dashes of cocktail bitters directly into cocktail shaker.
Step 5: Add Ice
Drop 3-4 cubes of ice into cocktail shaker.
Step 6: Stir Ingredients
Still all ingredients in cocktail shaker together with bar spoon. Do not shake!
Step 7: Strain Mixture
Use drink strainer to strain all ingredients in cocktail shaker into a bourbon glass.
Step 8: Add Cherry
Add cherry to finished drink.
Step 9: Enjoy!
You have now successfully made a Manhattan cocktail. Enjoy responsibly!

So if you're using angostura bitters, then why are peychauds bitters in the picture?

Try Luxardo cherries in your Manhattan. Much nicer than ice cream cherries.

very unrelated drink. if you order it at a bar make sure you ask for a bucket if not, it'll be served in a martini glass. some bartenders use orange instead of cherries and will even burn the rein a bit and toss it in.

if you are scared of glowing cherries like I am I would suggest taking real cherries and soaking them in booze for a few days. there are also many simple recipes around for making your own maraschino cherries which are a bit more complex than a soak but work well.

Very nicely done instructable for my adult beverage of choice, although personally I prefer a perfect manhattan, dirty rocks on the side. A little less sweet. Cheers!
