Introduction: How to Make a Minecraft Server
Hello, Today I am going to show you how to make a Minecraft server that has a lot of options.
Step 1: What You Will Need
You will need:
A decent computer with:
4 Gigs of ram (works with as low as two)
2.6 GHz dual core cpu minimum
You will also need some geekiness.
Step 2: Download Your Server Jarfile
Step 3: Getting the Info You Need
Go to start, then type in 'cmd' without the quotes. this should bring up a window like so. Then type ipconfig into that window and press enter. Look for the line that says IPV4 address. next to it should be a number like 192.168.0.7. Save that number somewhere, and on the the next prep.
Now rename the file you downloaded to 'server' and move it to an easy to get to folder that your server files will go into.
Open up notepad, and type in:
java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar server.jar nogui
Go to file>save as and save it as run.bat in the same folder as your server.jar.
Step 4: First Time Server Setup
Double click the run.bat file you made in the previous step. it will make a couple files, and close itself. Open up the file named EULA and edit the bottom line so that it says eula=true instead of eula=false. Now save the file, and click the run .bat again. it should make several more files and stay open. now type stop and press enter. The window will close. Now we are ready to do the next step.
Step 5: Getting People on the Server
If you just want to play with people in your house, then setup is simple, Just give the person your ipv4 address, amd let them type it into minecraft, and WALA!
However, if you want to play with people outside your house, you will need to portforward port 25565 on your router. I am not going to write this out, as it is different from router to router. Once you have done this, go to ipchicken.com and give your friends that ip (Don;'t give it to anyone that you don't trust) and they should be able to play now, using thta ip. People in your house still use the IPv4.
Step 6: Pimp Out Your Server. (optional)
If you used download 2, then your server has generated a plugins folder for plugins. these can do cool things. I have setup a .zip file that you can extract into your plugins folder. It has the most basic plugins. You can download that here. extract your files. to plugins. now your plugins folder should look like the picture. Now you can do the following commands if you have op.
/mw create Creates a new world
/mw load Loads a world
/mw move Teleports player to selected world (world is the name of the default world.)
/mw unload Unloads a world.
/fly [IGN] Allowes a player to fly
/god [IGN] makes a player invincible
/afk [IGN] Does what you'd expect
/top Teleports you to the surface
/i Gives you a stack of the selected item
And there is so much more.
