Introduction: How to Make a Plant Book Shelve

In this instructable, I will show you how to make a plant bookshelf. My idea for a plant bookshelf came from the lack of space in my house. This project doesn't just allow for more space, but it also allows you to store your books or rest your coffee cups on it. The sole purpose of this project is to show that you can make something out of items that are lying around. It is essential to repurpose existing resources to prevent overconsumption. The wood for this project is all from a hanging bookshelf, along with the four plastic covers (which came included in the box). All of the metal pieces are scrap that were found lying around waiting for use. Finally, the screws, glue, plastic containers, and the screw gun/ screw driver are all materials I had on hand. Follow along to see what it will become!

Supplies

All of the tools that you might need to put this project together are

-screws lenth x4 1/2 " and x10 1/4 "

-screw gun or screw driver

-glue

-plastic hole covers x4

-plastic containers of your choice

Step 1: Attach the Base

In this step, you are going to gather your three pieces of wood that are 6" by 6". After gathering your wood, you are going to start to attach your pieces. In the second photograph, I show how the pieces are going to stand upright. Next, you should pre-drill your holes so it is easier for the screws 1/2 " (x4) to be put in. To do this, you need to line up the center of the edge with the center of the edge on the top piece. The thickness of his wood is 3/4", so the center of it would be 3/8". The holes were 4" apart with 1" from the end of the wood. The third photograph is with that third piece of wood attached to the other two. Finally, the last three photographs show what it is going to look like after it is all attached. I found it easier to have another person help me during this step.

Step 2: Attach Wings

In the first photograph, I show you the bracket, wood piece, screws 1/4 " (x4 on each bracket), and the base (which we put together in the first step). With the holes pre-drilled, I attached the metal bracket to the wing (1/4 circle of wood). This is going to be our support to hold the sides in place. Once the bracket is attached to the wood, it is time to attach it to our base. After one side is complete, repeat this on the opposite side. The second and third photographs show the complete look just from different angles.

Step 3: Attach Plant Hook

Next, I attached the plant hook to the front of the base with x2 1/4" screws. The second and third photographs show the final project. This step can be avoided, but I thought it would be a fun touch!

Step 4: Attach Hole Covers and Containers

This is the last and final step. I used the glue to attach the plastic containers and the plastic hole covers to the top of the shelf. The plastic containers can be placed wherever you choose! But the hole covers need to be used to fill in the holes that were left from the previous use of the wood.

Step 5: Extra Touch

To add some fun touches, this piece of metal could be used to prop up books in the center of the shelf. Now you can add your books, plants, and even a coffee mug!

Step 6: Final Touches

Finally, with the end product complete and some of our props added on, it's time to see what it would look like in your home. The first photograph is the one I took with my phone, but I wanted everyone to see what it would look like set up in a house. So I used ChatGPT to do this, and the second photo is the prompt I used to get the third photo. The final photo is how it would look in a house! I hope you enjoyed my instructable on how to make a plant bookshelf.
