Introduction: How to Make a Tie Dye Shirt

The first steps of making a tie dye shirt is making sure you have all of your materials and are ready to have some fun!

Supplies

Bucket filled with warm water

White T-Shirts

Plastic Bags

Tie-Dye Kit (comes with colors, rubber bands and gloves)

Step 1: Wet Your T-Shirt

Once you have all your materials, you can take your bucket full of warm water and dip your t-shirt in it. You want to make sure that the shirt is completely wet.

Step 2: Wring Out Your Shirt

After you have dunked your shirt into the bucket, you want to wring it out. Your shirt should be damp at this point and not dripping water. When you are finish squeezing the water, you want to lay your shirt flat on the table or whatever surface you are working on.

Step 3: Tie Your Shirt

There are several different ways to tie your shirt. The one pictured above is spiral, but multiple spirals. Your can do huge spiral as well.

To achieve the spiral design, you have the pinch the middle of your shirt (or whichever spot you have chosen) and begin to twist clockwise, tightly. After this, you want to tie your t-shirt with the rubber bands.

Step 4: ADD COLOR!!!!!

NOW THE FUN PART!!!

Grab your favorite colors and let your imagination fly! There are no right or wrong ways to go about this. You can have one color or a whole rainbow!

Step 5: Throw It in the Bag!

When you are done adding the colors to your shirt, you want to place it in a plastic bag.

Your shirt should stay in the bag for at least 24 hours. After the 24 hours, you can take our your shirt and hang it to dry. (I suggest somewhere outside, in a tub, over the sink etc. because the shirt will most likely drip.) When your shirt your is dry, wash with cold water preferably alone unless you want your other colors to be colorful as well! After this first wash, you should be able to was it regularly with your other clothes.

Step 6: End Results!

Finally! You have your tie dye shirt and repeat as many times as you want!
