Step 1: Step 2: Find a Photo
On the internet, find a photo of an animal that you would like to make a toy of.
- Find an animal that is easily recognized from the side view
- Pick an image of your animal that is from the side.
Step 2: Step 3: Print Your Image
- Print picture and outline around the drawing
- Print the photo to the size you want your toy to be
- Add two holes for the axles and wheels
Step 3: Step 4: Make a Template
- Place your photo onto the plywood and trace out your animal
- Cut the plywood into the shape of the animal
- Use the belt sander to remove any sharp edges
Step 4: Step 5: Cutting Out Your Toy and Drilling Axle Holes
- Use the temple you cut to trace the pig shape into the 2x6 scrap or stock wood.
- Make sure to cut as close to the template as possible and make edges rounded.
- Draw out two circles on the bottom of your toy for axle holes
- Use drill press to make these holes
Step 5: Step 6: Router and Sand the Edges
Round over the edges so that the toy will be smooth and safe for children to handle
Use the router table 1/4" round over bit to router the edges
sand all tool marks out
Remove all marks
Step 6: Step 7: Paint Your Pig
- It is recommended not to paint your entire toy
- I mixed hot pink and light pink to achieve this color
Step 7: Step 8: Gluing the Axles and Wheels
- Use wood glue to glue on your pieces
- Make sure your axles fit before gluing
- Place the glue insides the holes
- Put the axles through the wheels
- Stick axle and wheel into the hole
- Leave enough space between the toy and the wheel so it can still roll
