How to Repair a Plastic Watch Band

Watch companies often include inexpensive, weak plastic watchbands with their watches so that they break after a certain amount of time. That way consumers have to buy a new watch just because the band breaks. This Instructable will show you how to repair the band so that you do not have to buy a new watch (or band).

Supplies

1. Broken plastic watchband
2. Contact cement similar to this:

4. Four small pieces of cloth (I used cloth from an old shirt)
5. Duct tape

Step 1: Cement and Cloth

1. Duct tape one side loosely attaching the 2 pieces
2. Turn over and brush cement on both sides of the break.
3. Place cloth on both pieces of the watchband, attaching them together.
4. It is ok to leave space between them. This will create a hinge at the main stress point.

Step 2: Brush on Extra Cement

1. Brush extra cement on top of the cloth..

Step 3: Repeat on Other Side

1. Remove duct tape
2. Brush cement on the other side of the watchband
3. Place cloth on it
4. Brush additional cement on top of cloth.
5. After it is dry, further secure it by placing 3 staples over the space between the two pieces.
6. Use a magic marker to color it black so that it matches the original color.

Step 4: Duct Tape Back

1. Place duct tape on the back of the watch band where it touches the skin. If you don't, it will cause a rash where the plastic cement touches the skin.
