Introduction: How to Start a Fitness Blog With Zyro
Starting a fitness blog is an excellent way of sharing your love for sports with others as well as creating and growing your fitness brand and even possibly earning some money on the side.
Don't worry if you have no website building experience. There are plenty of versatile website builders available that do not require any coding or design experience. So you will be able to create a fitness blog in no time!
Step 1: Choose a Website Builder
There is a wide selection of website builders - for example, Wix, Webflow, or Squarespace. Most of them have a free version or a trial period, so you can test several before selecting the one that suits your needs best.
I chose Zyro to create a fitness blog as it has plenty of AI-powered tools that help ease my blogging workflow.
Step 2: Choose a Template
Choose a template with a design that reflects you and your blog best. All of Zyro’s templates are SEO-optimized and mobile-friendly. Using one will increase your blog’s chance of ranking higher in search results pages.
Don’t worry too much about which template to choose as you will still be able to fully customize it by changing styles, adding pages, and inserting new elements.
I will be using the Mikaela resume template for these Instructables.
Step 3: Customize the Website
Edit pages
Some templates have pre-existing pages prepared. Delete unnecessary pages for your blog, i.e., Pricing, and consider adding new pages to accommodate different content types. For instance, the About me page is ideal for telling visitors about yourself and your goals, while the Contact us page provides contact details where people can reach out to you.
You can delete and add new pages by pressing the buttons shown in the first picture.
Change elements
Delete and edit the existing elements and insert new ones like pictures, text boxes, and videos and change the background images by using a drag-and-drop builder as shown in the second picture. Simply choose what what element you want to insert and drag it in
P.S. You can always click Preview to see how your website will look like.
Step 4: Preparing and Uploading the Content
Preparing the content
One of the keys to becoming a successful fitness blogger is to produce high-quality content regularly. Besides appealing to search engine algorithms, this practice also makes it easier for you to build a solid audience base.
Creating a content calendar is one way to hold yourself accountable for this responsibility. Regardless of how many times you want to post per week, try to stick to your posting schedule. Consider compiling a topic bank and write posts in advance.
Uploading the content
After you have prepared your content, click the purple icon on the right with a pen on it and press Start a Blog as shown in the picture and select to add new post.
Step 5: Publish Your Blog
Once your website is customized, and the content is ready, click Publish website.
P.S. You can always find your website in the Account Dashboard and edit it anytime.
Step 6: Connect Your Blog With a Custom Domain Name
Why is the domain name important?
As visitors will use your domain to access the blog, it should be memorable, catchy, and easy to spell. Avoid using symbols and numbers as they can negatively affect the domain's memorability and readability.
One of the options is using your name as the domain, for example, tonygentilcore.com. If you're planning on branching out to different niches, using your name provides more freedom to do so without undergoing a significant rebranding.
You can also use keywords related to the service you offer — Yoga With Adriene and Diary of a Fit Mom, for example. Just keep the name unique and simple without straying away from your brand identity.
How to connect my blog with a custom domain?
First, choose a premium plan that suits your needs best. Then go to your Account Dashboard and click on your page's Settings. You will be able to connect the custom domain in the Domain section.
Don't worry if you don't have a custom domain yet, you can purchase it in the Domain section as well.
Step 7: Promote Your Blog
After your fitness blog is up and running, it’s time to promote it like crazy.
The easiest way to do it is to create social media posts linked back to the blog. You can even create dedicated accounts using the site’s domain as their handle names for branding purposes.
If you want to dabble with email marketing, start small by building an email list. Putting up a contact form on your web page makes it easier to collect visitors’ email addresses.
Once you have a decent list of email addresses, you can start sending out newsletters and even ask your community for their feedback and stories to share on the blog.
