Introduction: How to Surf

The purpose of these instructions is to provide a safe and

clear way for people to learn to surf correctly and safely. Some people may think they can get right out there without proper training and get hurt. It is not a simple task at all. It takes a lot of practice and focus to be extra careful, and figure out each little piece that is right for you. Everyone has to wear a life jacket while surfing!

Step 1: Chose the Right Board

Step 1- Choose the right board for you. Choosing the right surf board makes a world of difference for a beginner to learn how to surf. For instance a taller person may want to choose a bigger board because it is easier to pull their selves up on and balance once you are pulled up out of the water. If you are learning how to surf, you probably need a beginner board.

Step 2: Put on a Life Jacket

Step 2-Put on a life jacket, and jump in the water! It is necessary that everyone that is learning how to surf wears a life jacket. You will be falling off of the board and it is the law to wear the jacket. (Warning: It is not safe to not wear a life jacket. If you are not a great swimmer, you could get hurt or drown.)

Step 3: Put Heels in the Right Place on the Board.

Step 3-Once you are in the water place the backs of your heels on the surf board where your feet need to be placed. It is very important to learn to place your feet in the right spot because that is what matters when you learn to stand up on the surf board. You will place your feet about 3 inches from the side of the board. And far enough apart where you can stand up straight. (This part is a little different for everyone.)

Step 4: Keep Knees Bent

Step 4- Keep knees completely bent. This may sound easy, but it is not as easy as it sounds. Once the boat is puling, keeping the knees bent is one of the most important steps while learning how to pull up on that board. The boat does most of the work, but letting that happen is the tricky part. Keep the knees bent until it pulls the person in a standing up position.

Step 5: Put Weight on Front and Back Feet to Go Forward and Backwards

Step 5-Once you get up, put weight on your front foot and back foot in order to steer yourself forwards and backwards. (Learn how to do this while still holding on to the rope.) Let go of the rope with one hand while you are learning how to balance your feet.

Step 6: Let Go of the Rope!

Step 6-Once there is some balance between the front and back feet, let go of the rope! This will be a lot harder than just surfing all of a sudden. It may take weeks of trying, but once the rope is let go, and the balance is learned it starts to get easier.

Step 7: Conclusion

Once these steps have been followed, there will just need to be some practice. Follow these steps over and over again, and you will be a surfing pro!
