How to tie-dye a t-shirt in 10 simple steps!

Step 1: Step 1: Get Supplies

Buy size medium rubber bands, a basic tie-dye kit (CreateBasicsKit from Wal-Mart is a good kit to use), a white cotton t-shirt, gallon-sized freezer Ziploc bags, large trash bags, .26 oz squirt bottles, a pair of latex protective gloves (optional), and dye (can find in tie-dye kit).

Step 2: Step 2: Fold Shirt

Lay the trash bag flat on a flat surface (i.e. cement or
countertop). Lay the shirt flat on the trash bag.

Step 3: Step 3: Fold Shirt (cont.)

Pinch the middle of the shirt, and turn clockwise until the shirt looks like a flat, twisted disc (about 4 360 degree turns). One hand pinches the middle of the t-shirt, while the other hand cups the rest of the shirt while it is being twisted in the middle, so it creates a tight, sphere-shaped disc.

Step 4: Step 4: Tie Shirt

Wrap the rubber bands around the shirt. Use at least six
rubber bands that will divide it into 12 sections. For example, divide the shirt in half with the first rubber band, and so on.

Step 5: Step 5: Tie Shirt (cont.)

They should intersect at the center of the disc (also known
as the folded t-shirt). Should look like a pie.

Step 6: Step 6: Dye Shirt

Add water to the black line on each of the squirt bottles.
The powder should already be in the bottles from the tie- dye kit. Shake the bottles until all of the powder is dissolved. If you want to wear the protective gloves, put them on at this point. If not, the dye could temporarily stain hands.

Step 7: Step 7: Dye Shirt (cont.)

Saturate the shirt with your preferred colors between and under the rubber bands to make the spiral pattern. Unfold the shirt to make sure the center of the shirt is getting the dye. This step is where you have the option to make your shirt your own...Have fun with it!

Step 8: Step 8: Dye Shirt (cont.)

Place the rubber-banded shirt in a Ziploc and let it sit for at
least 6-8 hours (preferably overnight). Keep the rubber bands on the shirt.

Step 9: Step 9: Rinse Shirt

Rinse the rubber-banded shirt until the water is clear. Take
rubber bands off, and squeeze the rest of the dye out of the shirt.

Step 10: Step 10: Wash and Dry Shirt

Wash the shirt by itself in the washing machine in cold water.
Let it fully dry (air dry or tumble dry low by itself in the drying machine) then it is ready to wear.
