Step 1: Making the Initial Knot

The following procedure assumes the shoe is untied. The following steps correspond with the image order.

  1. Take the left lace in your left hand and the right lace in your right hand.
  2. Pull up gently on both laces, so that they are straight and parallel to each other.
  3. Take the right lace and cross it behind the left lace, so the laces form an "X".
  4. Carefully take the right lace in your left hand while still holding onto the left lace. You should still be maintaining the "X" and your right hand should be free.
  5. Take the left lace in your right hand. The right lace should now be in your left hand and the left lace should be in your right hand while maintaining the "X".
  6. Slide your right hand down and hold onto where the two laces intersect. You can now let go of the laces with your left hand.
  7. Take the lace end that is to the left of the cross with your left hand and put it into the opening below the intersection.
  8. Carefully reach around the back and grab the lace end that is inside the opening with your left hand.
  9. Slide your right hand back to the top of the lace end.
  10. Pull the lace in your left hand to the left and pull the lace in your right hand to the right until tight.

You should now have the initial knot!

Step 2: Making the Final Knot

The following procedure assumes you have made the initial knot. The following steps correspond with the image order.

  1. Take the left lace in your left hand and grip it with your middle finger, ring finger, and pinky. Your index finger and thumb should be free. Do the same for the right hand with the right lace.
  2. With your left hand while maintaining the grip, roll your thumb over the lace. This should be a wrist rotation move. The lace should be on your thumb and index finger. Ensure the lace feels tight around your hand for a secure knot. Refer to the second image and video for clarity.
  3. With your right hand while maintaining the grip, roll your index finger under the lace. This should be a wrist rotation move. The lace should be on your index finger and thumb. Ensure the lace feels tight around your hand for a secure knot. Refer to the third image and video for clarity.
  4. With your left hand while maintaining the grip, pinch the right lace with your index finger and thumb carefully. The lace around your left hand may slide, but ensure it remains tight. Refer to the fourth image and video for clarity.
  5. With your right hand while maintaining the grip, pinch the left lace with your index finger and thumb carefully. The lace around your right hand may slide, but ensure it remains tight. Refer to the fifth image and video for clarity.
  6. While pinching with both hands, pull the left hand to the left and the right hand to the right until the knot is tight. Refer to the sixth image and video for clarity.

Your shoe should now be tied!
