Intro: How to Tie the Lanyard Knot

Many people including myself have had trouble following the Stormdrane youtube video on tying the lanyard knot so i have done some research and found the solution!

STEP 1: Materials

All you need is a reasonable length of para cord or whatever you wish to use.

STEP 2: First Step

The first thing you are going to do is to make a bight that leaves you with to congruent ends.
Then you are going to put your ring finger through the bight.

STEP 3: Starting the Knot

Make a loop just like the one in the picture and place it over the top strand.
Bring the top strand under the bottom strand.

STEP 4: The Most Important Part

Now you take the top stand from the previous picture and feed it over the first part of the loop under itself and back over the remainder of the loop.

STEP 5: Doubling

Now take the bottom stand and take it around the part of the top strand nearest to the bight and than come up through the diamond shape in the middle.
Do the same for the top strand.

STEP 6: Finishing

When you take it off your finger it should look like this.
Work out the slack by pulling on the bight and the two strands.

I realize this is incredibly late but maybe someone else has the same issue: I love hemostats for this very reason, start below the knot then follow the cord through the knot and use the hemostats to tug it snug all the way through the knot until it's nice and tight. If you don't have hemostats you can use your fingernails to pinch the cord and tighten but if you're going into lots of paracord crafting they're a worthy investment!

The first couple of times I tied this knot, I came back to go over your steps. And I could not for the life of me figure out how to make this knot slide in order to tighten a lanyard or drawstring. Until I realized that this knot is the same one that I saw to put some cord on my water bottle and it hit me, I can just put my loop through the center of the knot! And now I can tie it without instruction. It is fast becoming my favorite knot. Thank you!

I want to use this under a monkey's fist so I hope I can use the two strands leaving the fist as the bight. Here goes..

i personally think that stormdrane's video made sense. i was able to tighten the knot just because of watching his video and how he out the tips through the "diamond", i guess it wouldnt look like that because i put the ends in wrong. i will admit that his video is a bit confusing but he does the same thing as you just with a slightly different method

How does this work for tying a lanyard knot in the middle of a very long rope, say 100 feet, with other lanyard knots tied in it? I cannot see feeding that much rope through the loops as this demonstration shows.

jolora - one of the "tricks" to learn is to push a "bight" of cord through and then pull the long part through - fast and easy, with no extra twists to the cord.

wind the excess cord around a spool so you only have to pull a short bit through
each time....
