Introduction: How to Use TinkerCad (for Beginners)

About: Hi! My name is Chyna081309. I like working with TinkerCad. Enjoy my projects! <3

In this project, I will be showing you how to use TinkerCad. This project is for beginners who are new to TinkerCad and want to learn how to use it. Enjoy!

Note: If your TinkerCad looks a bit different, it is because this is iOS TinkerCad.

Supplies

For this project, all you will need is a TinkerCad account.

Step 1: Creating the Project

On the TinkerCad home screen, there is an option that says “+ New.” When you press that, there are 3 options. Press 3D design.

Step 2: Shapes and How to Move Them

In TinkerCad, the 3D objects are referred to as shapes. The building area is called the workplane. To move a shape to the workplane, just drag it from its spot in the shape menu to a spot on the workplane. To change their color, select the shape, press the circle containing their color, and then a menu of various colors will appear. Simply click which color you want your shape to be. To make the shape taller or wider, drag the squares surrounding the shape you’re working with.

Step 3: Cutting Shapes

To make a hole in a shape, bring a “hole” cylinder to the workplane. Adjust the size and position of the cylinder depending on where you want the hole. Then click both shapes to select the both of them at the same time. Then press the group button (the button that looks like a square joined with a circle). To cut a shape in half, drag a “hole” cube to the workplane. Then place it halfway through the shape you’re cutting, select both shapes, and group them together.

Step 4: Making Your Own Shapes

If you want to make you own shape in TinkerCad, go to the shape menu and drag the shape that looks like a squiggle to the workplane. It should bring you to a grid where you can draw. Then draw the shape you want to appear 3D and press Done.

Step 5: Making Words

To make a word in TinkerCad, drag the shape that says Text to the workplane. Then select the shape and a drop down menu should appear. In that menu, there should be a box you can type in at the very top of the menu. Type the word you want to become a shape in the box and it will become 3D.

Step 6: Joining Shapes Together

To join multiple shapes into one shape, select at least two shapes and press the group button. Then the shapes should all turn the same color. If you want the shape to revert to its original colors, select the shape, press the color menu, and select multicolor.

Step 7: That’s All, Folks!

That’s it for the basics of TinkerCad. I hope the beginners viewing this instructable enjoy this and learn the gist of how to use TinkerCad. Thanks for viewing this instructable!
