Introduction: How to Backup IPhone to USB Drive and Without ITunes

iTunes can only back up your iPhone to a single location in your PC system drive. This is by far not an ideal place to save backed up iOS files. Here's why:

  • the system drive contains your Windows installation and is often limited in space
  • if the PC crashes, all content from the system drive is at risk of being lost, including your iPhone backup

This article shows how to back up iPhone to an external drive like a USB stick or another external drive with ease, for free and without the need for iTunes.

Step 1: Download CopyTrans Shelbee on Your PC

Step 2: Connect IPhone and Click "Backup"

Connect the iOS device you wish to back up and click on the "Backup" button.

Step 3: Click "Full Backup"

Step 4: Choose Where to Save the Backup Files

It's time to select the location for the iPhone backup. Click on the pencil symbol on the right hand side of the screen and navigate to your external drive.
