Intro: How to Enter the IRobot Create Scholarship Mini-contest
Because the directions for the original contest entry we're probably a bit unclear, we here at Instructables HQ wanted to create a separate listing for the iRobot Scholarship contest that has a bit more clarity.
Here's how it works:
1. You submit an idea about how you'd use the iRobot Create to do something cool to the iRobot group forums.
2. We choose the top 15 entries, and give them iRobot Creates.
3. People who win iRobot Creates build stuff using them, and submit them to the main contest.
The only caveat is that you need to submit an entry to the contest if you win one of the Creates, so the ideas should be something you feel confident you'll be able to do. You can submit more than one idea, but we'll only be sending one Create per person, and will look unfavorably on idea spam. Please think through what you're going to do.
If you don't enter the main contest, you have to give the Create back. If you do submit an entry into the contest, you do not. You do not have to win the contest to keep your Create, you just need to submit an entry.
All ideas need to be submitted to the group by June 30th. The prize for the full contest is $5,000 cash.

I just noticed a couple of things about the contest.
1. the general contest rules say: "For those who wish to enter the main contest, but who do not have the ability to purchase an iRobot Create kit themselves" suggesting financial need. But not necessarily? Of course someone could lie about need unless you collect tax returns or something.
2. I notice the iRobot Create Challenge Forum has a lot of topics that have the idea posted that they plan to work on but do NOT have anything in the title saying they wish to be considered for the Scholarship. Are you planning on including them in the scholarships? Maybe something in the body of their posting. It doesn't say anything specific beyond posting ones idea on the challenge forum. If there are fewer than 15 innovative, etc requests no problem but if all 40-50-ish are part of the scholarship then it seems a little iffy. However I can see rewarding someone just for having a truly unique project and/or "Create"ive solution to a more common idea or meeting some of your other desires in the official rules.

I clarified with iRobot. A battery and charger *is* included.
