Intro: How to Make an Origami Minion | Birthday Gifts - 3D Toys | DIY Paper Crafts

Learn how to make a Paper Toy Minion with approximately 689 origami pieces. All you need is some white, yellow, blue and black paper to make this origami paper craft. This is easy origami to make for a child's birthday party decorations or for any Despicable Me fan. If you like making origami, this is a cool craft that will save you money. Get the kids to help you make some of the easier steps and make this craft a whole family event.

Familiarize yourself with the design. Take a look at how the Minion will look in order to envision what you're making.

STEP 1: Watch the Video!!!

STEP 2: Tips!

  • Be patient. The folding is the longest part of the 3D Origami process.
  • Try to keep the triangles in a box to avoid losing them.
  • If you have a paper cutter or a paper trimmer available, use it! It makes the cutting process go by much faster.
  • Stack the triangles in 'sticks'. It helps in storage.
  • Avoid folding too hard. The triangles stay together better when the folds are made softly.

STEP 3: Warnings!

  • When using scissors, a paper trimmer or a paper cutter, be careful not to cut yourself.

STEP 4: Things You'll Need!

  • Scissors, a paper trimmer or a paper cutter
  • Paper
  • White Glue
  • Printed mouth
  • Printed eye
  • Printed Minion logo

STEP 5: How Many Origami Pieces You Need

This model is made from :

- around 27 white pieces ( this pieces are made from rectangles of paper with dimensions of 2.5 cm x 5 cm)

- around 344 yellow pieces ( this pieces are made from rectangles of paper with dimensions of 6 cm x 9 cm )

- around 246 blue pieces ( this pieces are made from rectangles of paper with dimensions of 6 cm x 9 cm )

- around 72 black pieces ( this pieces are made from rectangles of paper with dimensions of 6 cm x 9 cm )

STEP 6: How to Make an Origami Piece

Take one of the squares and hold with the longer side on the bottom.

In the next Steps I will show you how to fold it!

STEP 7: First Fold

Fold in half from the bottom to the top.

STEP 8: Second Fold

Fold again from right to left but don't press the fold very hard.

STEP 9: Unfold Only the Last Folding

Unfold only the last folding and rotate the paper like in the second image with the fold in upside.

STEP 10: Third Fold

Fold the right side of the paper to the bottom line in the middle.

STEP 11: Fourth Fold

Fold the left side of the paper to the bottom line in the middle.This should now look like an house.

STEP 12: Rotate the Paper

Rotate the paper like in the photos

STEP 13: Fifth Fold and Sixth Fold

Fold down outside corners.

STEP 14: Seventh Fold and Eighth Fold

Fold the top 2 flaps down. You'll end up with a triangle.

STEP 15: Last Fold

Fold in half and you are done.

The piece will look like the one in the last photo

STEP 16: How to Make an Origami Base

After you finished to make the pieces, start assembling the base. For this you will need 48 pieces. You will notice that each piece will have two legs and two pockets.To assemble them you will put the leg of one into the pocket of another, but you must make sure to keep them alternating like bricks so that each new piece you put on is resting on two different pieces. So to put it another way, grab one piece and take the right leg and insert it into the left pocket of another piece. With the left leg of the first piece, place it inside the right pocket of a third piece.

Continue adding pieces on top then on bottom until you have used all 48 pieces : 24 on the top row and 24 on the bottom row.

STEP 17: Unite the End of One Side With the Other One

Now that you have this line you must connect the two ends together so that you now have a ring.

And now the base it's finished

STEP 18: Build Up the Body.

Now this step is where things start getting really fun.

Add 3 more layers on top of the first 2 layers that formed the base.

Every row will need to have 24 pieces.

STEP 19: Use Special Color Patterns on the 6th Row and 7th Row, Through the 12th Row.

Take a look at the photo to understand how to put the pieces(or watch the video)

On the 6th row you neet to put this pieces in order:

- 5 yellow pieces

- 7 blue pieces

- 5 yellow pieces

- 7 blue pieces

On the 7th row you neet to put this pieces in order:

- 6 yellow pieces

- 6 blue pieces

- 6 yellow pieces

- 6 blue pieces

Continue like this until you have 7 rows that are made with yellow and blue pieces!

STEP 20: 13th Row - 24 Blue Pieces

On the 13th row you need to put 24 blue pieces!

STEP 21: Continue With Seven Yellow Rows!

Add 7 yellow layers.

STEP 22: Continue With Two Black Rows!

Add 2 black layers.

STEP 23: Continue With 3 Yellow Rows!

Continue with 3 yellow rows!

STEP 24: Glue the Eye!

You have to make an eye or print one [ the circle it's made with 27 white pieces ( 2.5 cm x 5 cm ) ]

STEP 25: Glue the Mouth and the Logo!

Glue the mouth and the logo!

Make them or print them!

STEP 26: How to Make the Hands and Legs

For one hand you will need 5 black pieces and 12 yellow pieces

For one leg you will need 7 black pieces and 5 blue pieces

STEP 27: Stick the Legs and the Hands

Stick the legs and the hands like in the photos.

Congratulations!

You have finished the Minion!
