About: ***I am currently functioning out of my Etsy site ALONE for sales!!! I will take any dreads questions/orders at this website!!! www.marchoftheblacksheep.etsy.com PLEASE CONTACT ME THROUGH THAT SHOP I have too …
Hello again!
This goes along with my other two instructables... the exact same basic method, but this is just a way to make a different design. The swirled/candy cane dreads spiral two different colors all the way down like you see below. They're sealed the exact same way so be sure to see my other two tutorials before this for the basic steps!

Sealing: https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Synthetic-Dreads-Sealing-Method-1/
*That is sealing method 1, check in soon and I will have an alternative method posted as well*

(These are single ended by the way, same as my other tutorials, but you can make these double ended as well.)

Step 1: You Need...

Not too much for these ones. Basically the same materials that you use for the making the basic solid dreads in my first tutorial

(Link to that page: https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Synthetic-Dreads-Making-Solid-Single-Ended-Dr/ )

Besides that, there is really only one difference. Two colors instead of one. I will be using red and black.

All you need is:
- Two different colored synthetic hairs (I only use Kanekalon hair in my tutorials)
- Scissors
- Dread comb/regular strong comb
- A hanger

Step 2: Setting Up

Now the fun starts. You are going to use the exact same basic steps as you did in my first tutorial. (link to that in step 1 if you need to reference back.)
I will be making a medium length candy cane dread, which is 1/2 length. (See picture 1 for length comparisons)

First things first. Take your two equal sections of hair and put them together, like you see in pic 2. Line the bottoms of the sections up with each other best you can so that they come out even in the end. They don't have to be perfect, just lay them side by side.

Then you want to hook your dread around a hanger or whatever you have, like in tutorial 1, and make your top loop. (Pic 3) As you remember, that is where you will be attaching the dread to your head with your hair.

Step 3: Go Time

Now, the next step can take some getting used to. You are going to use the same backcombing method I have spoken about before, but this time you have two different colors. So read this part carefully.

First you are going to seperate the two different colors from each other, (pic. 1.) It doesn't have to be perfect seperation, if my camera was closer you could see that a few red strands are in the black. It won't matter in the long run.
Now you are going to backcomb the first section (in my case the red) seperatley from the black hair. (Pic. 2) Backcomb all the way down the dread, just like you were making a normal one. Continue your backcombing until the first section is done.

Next, you are going to switch them. Hold the red out of the way, and dread the black section. (Pictures 3&4) Backcomb same as always until you finish the second section.

Now comes the candy caneing...

Step 4: The Candy Cane Effect

This part is fairly simple, you want to take the two seperate (yet attached) dreads you have made, and begin to twist them. (Pictures 1&2)

As you begin to do this, you will obviously see where they get their Candy Cane name. It will take a while to perfect the spacing of the two colors, sometimes one color can seem to "disappear" into the other, but it just comes with practice.

It's as simple as that!

Step 5: Sealing & Finish

You will need to seal these obviously just like every other dread. Since I have already made these tutorials please choose one of the following links to whichever method you would like to use.

Steam sealing method: https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Synthetic-Dreads-Sealing-Method-1/

Tea kettle method: (coming soon)

Either one of these methods will finish off these dreads. In the end, they will look beautiful and candy-caney!

I hope this tutorial helped, and keep your eye out for my other dread design how-tos!
As always, thank you for reading and any questions feel free to ask!
