Intro: How to Make a Rubber Band Gun With Popsicle Sticks

Today I wanted to show you how to make a Simple Popsicle Stick Rubber Band Gun with a Trigger.

This cool gun holds 2 rubber bands, one on top and one on bottom. It is easy to load and fun to shoot.

These are the items needed:

- 3 regular popsicle sticks (craft sticks)

- 2 jumbo popsicle sticks (craft sticks)

- set of chopsticks

- 2 mini clothespins

- hot glue gun

- cutting tool

- small file

First take a jumbo popsicle stick and cut it in the middle with about a 45 degree angle. Then place the 2 halves together to determine which side is longer. Place the longer side onto a second jumbo stick and cut it the same length. The two longer pieces work great for the outsides of the handle. Now place one of the shorter pieces in the middle to make it a little thicker.

I then used the hot glue gun to hold them together. You can use any glue, but a hot glue gun does dry much faster.

Next take a set of chopsticks and glue them together. If they have skinny tips, it is best to place them towards the back of the gun so they are hidden. Make sure not to use too much glue, or it may get stuck to the surface you are working on.

Next grab one of your regular popsicle sticks. This will hold one side of the gun together. Place some additional glue along the side of the chopsticks and the cut edge of the jumbo sticks, making sure they are sloping rearward.

Then apply the regular stick.

Now flip everything over and glue the second stick in place. If any excess glue has squeezed out, try to remove it without getting burned.

With the third craft stick, you will need to cut off about one inch. I then added some hot glue to one of the mini clothespins and added the newly trimmed stick. Within seconds the glue was holding it firmly in place.

Now add some more glue to the rear of the gun frame and place the second clothespin facing forward. Make sure the glue is only on one side of the clothespin.

Then add some glue to the under side of the frame in the position of a normal trigger and attach the first clothespin.

Within a minute everything thing should be dry enough to use, but while I waited, I took the edge of a file and made a groove in the end of each chopstick to give the rubber bands a better place to rest.

The gun is now ready to shoot.

If you want to make this gun with only popsicle sticks in place of the chopsticks, you will need 4 more sticks and the other regular stick you cut earlier. You will need to glue them into an overlapping pattern to extend the barrel out far enough to get power. You will also need to add a small piece where the trigger goes to give the clothespin some support. Then file the tip of the barrel to hold the rubber bands.

But when you compare them together, I think the chopsticks design looks much better, what do you think?
