How to Make a USB Rumble Pack

In this Instructable, I will show you how to make a USB-Powered rumble pack. I will be entering this in the USB Contest, so vote if you like this! And people, please, please rate. C'mon... I know that I can get more that 1 rating...

Materials:

1- Old, broken, or damaged GameCube controller
1- Phillips-headed screwdriver
1- USB cord (I got one at Good Will for 99 cents)
1- (Optional) Roll of electrical tape or electrical glue
1- Computer
1- Awesome person (that's you!)

Now let's get this party started!

Step 1: The Controller

Now, on the back of the controller, there should be several screws. Un-screw them and take the controler apart. You may have to push or pull on the R and L buttons.

Step 2: Taking Off the Rumble.

Now that we have the controller open, we can take the rumble pack off. This part is really easy. If you want, like I did, you can just rip the cord off the circuit board.

Step 3: Making the USB Power

You can use this Instructable to make the cord, or you can stay on my Instructable.

(Step 1)

Cut of the tip of the USB cord (the side that you dont plug in to your computer) and strip it open. Un-wrap it of the foil and the little silver-colored wires. You should see 4 wires. Red, black, green, and white. The red and black carry power. You need those. The others you can put tape on the tips so they don't touch each other and tape them down somewhere on the cord.

Step 4: Making the USB Power (2)

Strip the power wires. Then tape/glue the wires to the rumble pack. (Black to black, red to red. Duh!) If you want, you can attach the rumble to a piece of wood or cardboard. Plug the cord in to your computer, and it should rumble. *VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*

If it doesn't, then try looking for broken or damaged connections. And check if your computer is on.

Step 5: Done!

You have sucessfully made a USB powered rumble pack! Have fun with it. Examples: Put it behind someone's computer and plug it in when it's off. When they turn the computer on, the pack will rumble, vibrate, and make noise! Maybe you could make an atachment for it or something.

***UPDATE***

I have made an attachment for it that is a fan. If you want to make one, all I did was take the lid off a shoe box and cut blades for it and bent the blades some so they would catch air and blow it. Then I taped it to the side of my computer so it would blow at me. Great for the upcomming summer!

Even better! You could take one of those cordless mouses and make the USB from that send random input to the computer!

could you do a program that makes it spin for exemple for 5 secs evry hour?

ill probably make one with a little switch so when its plugged in it dosnt have to rumble... they are like 1$ at radioshack and im fairly sure i have one of these at home.

Does it work? I mean if I have a n64 emulator in my computer?

All it does it rumble whenever its plugged it, but you could probably modify it to work with games.
