I have been sewing for quite awhile and I get alot of questions on how to sew, I know this is simply for some of you but for those that are new to sewing or just want to learn or try it, this is a good place to start.
Alot of people wonder how they get that nice cord in there pillows, well I am here to show you how. I took alot of pictures so hopefully it will help you.

Step 1: Getting Your Fabric Ready

Lay out your material and cut the size pillow you would like. For example mine is 18x15 inches. Don't forget to leave a half inch or more for your seam allowance.

Step 2: Getting Your Cording Ready

Measure all 4 sides of the pillow for the length of strips and cording and allow a little extra, add them together plus an extra 2 inches.
Cut 2 inch strips for cording, cut as many strips necessary. I am using a contrasting material to make the pillows have more color. Sew strips together to make one long one.

Step 3: Sewing Your Cording

I like to baste (using a long stitch length) my cording into the strips before sewing them into my pillow. It just makes it easier.

Step 4: Sewing the Cording on the Fabric.

Using regular sewing foot, start in the middle of one side of the pillow leaving 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch cording not sewn, sew down to corner, make a cut as shown being careful not to cut where you have sewn, pivot as shown, and continue sewing till you reach about 1 inch from end. Pull fabric back from cord, clip away extra cording to where it would meet the other cord,(it may be necessary to cut your threads back some., Now place other end inside of the other piece and sew, making sure you fold down a little bit that is going to be on the outside. Step 5: Finishing Up

With zipper foot on the machine, Sew the other piece of pillow onto the first piece leaving about 4-5 inches of space to fill with polyfill or whatever your choice is. Cut all four corners off so it will make a good point. Turn right side out and press, fill with polyfill and hand sew opening.
Note: to make it look seamless, where you have the opening do this:
Go in between where you have already sewn with machine, and with knotted thread and needle catch a small amount of fabric on one side and then a small amount from the other, this is done without seeing the needle for 3-4 stitches then pull thru and do again ... do this to the end (sort of like a hidden running stitch, or quilting stitch) Make a knot at the end and push needle thru your fabric for about an inch to hide and secure the knot and your done.
