Intro: How to Make Your Own TCG (Trading Card Game)

I love playing card games but I can never find anybody who knows about the game to play it with so i decided to make my own! I will make a card game along side you as we dwell in the glory of card games!!! Hope you have fun!

STEP 1: Idea.

first you need to come up with an idea for a card game. You could make a card game with figures or just cards, or make a whole game board. I don't really care. But you need to come up with the building blocks that could someday become famous.

Here are some examples:

Subtracting health (Pokemon or Bakugan)
Three strikes your out (Redakai)
Majority (Instructables card game)

Be sure to chose a theme too. I chose a medieval card game with castles and dragons. Then after i chose the theme i chose a title Castle Quest was mine but you can come up with your own. Make sure the title portrays the game too.

STEP 2: Design.

Then came the Design. I made the cards look like a rectangle that was 1/8 of a PowerPoint page. The same with the back. Then i made the cards look exactly the same but with different pictures colors and words.

If you are making a card game by hand you might want to use card-stock paper so that the cards aren't see-through. To make cards the same size as mine you need to fold the paper hamburger style and then unfold. After that fold the paper hot dog style. Then turn the paper to landscape and fold the left and right side to the center. you should have 8 little boxes. Then you can color the cards however you want really.

You can also use things like ccg maker and bighugelabs. But i wanted my cards to have their own style.

STEP 3: Pictures.

I found my pictures on the internet.

STEP 4: Mechanics.

If you are going to be selling these then you should make a rule book so that people will know how to play. The same goes for websites. You should either make good packaging or just mail in envelopes.

STEP 5: Have Fun!

Have fun playing the game with your friends and family!!!!

STEP 6: Add Expansions to Your Game

People will keep playing if you can come up with new cards so be sure to update constantly.

good to have a story behind the idea. if you notice, pokemon cards have aname

You didn't showed how the cards you did look like (the download pdf is for premium users only, so is hidden for most users), there're no examples of any kind and CCG maker is "temporarily" disabled.

Good (yet basic) advices.

But how do you need to draw in the back if you want to name the tcg cards?

What's the exact size you used for the PowerPoint page?

Did someone get paid for this article? It's not really helping with anything more than a high level process and the writer doesn't sound professional.

Please go and support my friend who is raising £400 to create a TCG / CCG "Enchantment" which will be sold world wide.

You could be helping start the next biggest tcg in the world by donating.

Anyone who donates £25 or more will receive 1 free booster pack and 1 mythic rare card.

each pack will contain 5 common, 4 uncommon and 1 rare or a 1 in 30 pack chance of a mythic rare instead of a rare.

are you serious?

I may buy this tcg or cog you're talking about. But tell me more about it dude. Or I won't donate

I want to make a game about midevil warfare but I cant choos weather or not to make a gameboard

Just so you know Castle Quest was a game made in 1985 by Micro power for the BBC micro and if you don't believe here is proof, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Quest_(1985_video_game)

If you see my TCG instructable, I state that I am drawing pics. How to make online for free WITHOUT uploading things? like literally just draw online...

What about: here's an instructable for everything in life.

1: decide what you wanna do (I don't care what)

2: do it!

wut type of paper should i use if im willl stick on back of pokemon and cover both sides
I'm the opposite. I don't have an idea, but when I get one the design will be easy for me.
It would be nice to see some pictures of your cards, so we know what to aim at.

You could also include the rules you have chosen, and maybe an example of play.

(CCGs are cool: I used to play M:TG, but I just don't have time these days.)
Agreed. I have an Idea, only problem is card design now.
Step 4 is so huge. What game mechanics are applied to your game?
You can get you card game printed up on The Game Crafter. (as long as all your images don't infringe on any copyrights.)
