How to Replace Your IPhone 5c Screen

Learn how to replace a broken or non-functional screen on an iPhone 5c! Operations for an iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s are very similar.

Step 1: Order Tools and Parts

Order an iPhone 5c screen replacement assembly with tools online (eBay, Amazon, etc..)

Step 2: Power Down Your IPhone 5c

Hold down the power button until the "power down " function appears, swipe to the right to power the phone down.

Step 3: Remove Charger Dock Screws

Take your torx screwdriver from your tool set and remove the two screws located on each side of the charger dock.

Step 4: Place Suction Cup

Place the suction cup above the home button on the bottom of the screen.

Step 5: Pry Screen From Frame

GENTLY pry up from the bottom of the screen. Be careful not to pull the entire screen off as the top of the screen is still attached by several cables.

Step 6: Locate Display Shield

Flip the screen upwards to reveal the internal components of the iPhone 5c. The display shield is located in the top right corner and will need to be removed to disconnect the cables and remove the display assembly.

Step 7: Remove the Display Shield Screws

Take your phillips screwdriver from your toolset to remove the four screws found at the corners of the display shield.

Step 8: Remove the Display Shield Screws

Take your phillips screwdriver from your toolset to remove the four screws found at the corners of the display shield.

Step 9: Remove the Display Shield Screws

Take your phillips screwdriver from your toolset to remove the four screws found at the corners of the display shield.

Step 10: Remove the Display Shield

After removing the four screws that fasten the display shield in place, remove the display shield.

Step 11: Disconnect Cables

Take the spudger tool from your toolset and carefully pry the three connectors from the logic board. Two are visible whereas the third connector is hidden underneath the top two.

Step 12: Remove Display Assembly

Now that the three cables are disconnected from the logic board, you can remove the old display assembly and set it to the side.

Step 13: Install New Display Assembly

Take the new display assembly and connect the three cables you previously disconnected.

Step 14: Reinstall Display Shield and Screws

Take your phillips screwdriver and reinstall the display shield and the four screws you previously removed.

Step 15: Place the Display Assembly

To put the display assembly in place, align the top corners of the assembly with the frame then lower the bottom end of the assembly to the frame. Carefully press down on the assembly until it snaps in place. Be careful not to force the assembly in place, if force is needed you don't have something aligned correctly.

Step 16: Reinstall Charger Dock Screws

Take your torx screwdriver and reinstall the two charger dock screws.

Step 17: Power Up the IPhone 5c

Hold down on the power button until the phone starts to power up.

Step 18: Test Front Facing Camera

Open the camera and test the front facing camera to ensure the camera is operational.

Step 19: Test Touchscreen and Home Button

Test the touchscreen of the phone. The easiest way to do this is to open apps, type on the keyboard, and every day operations. Also be sure to test the home button.
