Introduction: How to Transfer IPod to PC and IPhone to PC?
If you want to backup your iPhone music to your PC, you accidentally deleted parts of your iTunes library or you want to populate a new empty library with your iPhone audio/video tracks, one of the easiest programs I found, is CopyTrans.
You can find more info for CopyTrans at the following link:

Step 1: Start CopyTrans
After you have downloaded and installed the program, connect your device and open up the program. You will see a list of your audio/video tracks and playlists on your device.
Step 2: If You Have ITunes Installed...
If you have iTunes installed, you can make use of the Smart backup option available in CopyTrans. The program will then compare the library of your iPhone to your iTunes library and will select automatically which iPhone tracks are ready to be transferred to iTunes.
If you don't have iTunes installed, click here to continue to Step 5.
A circular icon means that the track needs to be updated in iTunes as there is some information associated with it, which is missing in your iTunes. A thumbs-up icon means the track is in your iTunes library already and a green-arrow icon means that the track is ready to be backed-up into your iTunes library.
Therefore CopyTrans will not leave you with duplicate tracks once you do the transfer. After you have a look at what tracks need to be transferred, simply click on the Start backup button.
If you would like to manually select which tracks should get backed up into your iTunes library and which not, click here to go directly to Step 8.

Step 3: Transfer Begins
The transfer process will begin importing your iPhone tracks to your iTunes library.
Step 4: Open ITunes
You now have your iPhone or iPod Touch tracks back into your iTunes library. I tested CopyTrans with my iPod Touch 4G library and the following things have been transferred back to iTunes: music, audio books, movies, self-made videos, TV Shows, podcasts, video-podcasts, iTunes U, books, PDFs, ringtones, purchases, artwork, playlists, smart playlists, ratings and other ID3-Tags.
Step 5: Transfer Tracks to Your PC Without ITunes
If you don’t use iTunes to manage your iPhone, or simply would like to backup your iPhone tracks to a separate location on your PC (i.e. a folder), you can use the Manual backup option.
Simply select the Manual backup option and then select the tracks which you want backed-up manually. Then click on the Folder button.

Step 8: Alternative Manual Backup to ITunes
Alternatively, the Manual option also gives you the opportunity to transfer your iPhone tracks to your iTunes library, letting you choose which kind of tags (like ratings, ...) will be transferred along with the selected tracks. Just click on the Backup to iTunes button and follow the on screen instructions.
