Introduction: How to Use Google Keyword Planner

First of all, lets clarify what is Google Keyword Planner.

For any business, who is willing to have some online presence, for any webmaster, for any blogger or marketing researcher, there is no way around, but to have some numerical data. Numerical data regarding how many people are searching for a given keyword in Google.

Predecessor of the Keyword Planner was Google Keyword Tool. Many of you probably have heard of it. It was discontinued by Google in October 2013. And of course, webmasters community panicked.

However, it was replaced by Keyword Planner, as a part of Google Adwords program.

Now, what is the purpose of the tool. Its purpose is to provide webmasters with estimated amount of searches on a given keyword, to suggest similar keywords and to propose an Adword campaign for them (and it is up to you to use the campaign or not). And it is totally FREE!

Step 1: Login

Go to adwords.google.com and login with your Google account - your account for Gmail, webmaster tools, Google Plus, Youtube, etc.

Step 2: Create Adwords Account

You will be asked, if you want to connect your Google account with Adwords. Here you can choose your existing account or make a new one.

Step 3: Navigating Through Google Adwords

You will appear on the Google Adwords Panel. Click on Tools and then on Keyword Planner.

Step 4:

You will land on the Keyword Planner page.

Here are several options that you can choose:
1. Search for new keyword and ad group ideas - based on your keywords Google will suggest new keywords for you.
2. Get search volume for a list of keywords or group them into ad groups - you will have to set some amount of keywords, geographical location, language and negative keywords, and Google will show you average monthly searches for each keyword.
3. Get traffic estimates for a list of keywords - similar to the second option, however in the end you will receive more detailed data.
4. Multiply keyword lists to get new keyword ideas - a handy tool to find new keywords by creating different combinations of words.

Now I would like to clarify that the numbers that you are going to see from this point on are merely estimates. Google would never give such valuable information, as real number of searches, for free.

If you choose the second option, please, skip to the step 6. If you choose the third option, please, go to the step 5.

Step 5: Keywords Stats

Here you can see the details on your possible Adwords campaign and your keywords in groups. You can download the data from here by ticking the ad group and clicking Download (skip to the step 7) or you can see details on each keyword (step 6).

Step 6:

Here you can see the details on each keyword. Now, go back and click Download.

Step 7: Download

You will be presented with several options on the type of data you would like to download and if you would like to use Google Docs or Excel CSV to view it.

Step 8:

And this is the end result of your research. If you have chosen the second option in the step 4, you will not see Segmentation in the table, which is quite important factor nowadays.

This is the way to enhance your web presence or you can turn to online marketing professionals at Local Fame.
