For my hooping friends our there, here is a cute and simple hula hoop ornament!

Step 1: Materials

Materials:
Wire
Colored Tape
String (to hang)
Fancy Ribbon (optional)
Ornament Spinner (optional)

Tools:
Wire cutter
Ruler

To Begin:

Start by buying or finding some thin wire. I purchased the wire I used at Home Depot, they had a few different colors and sizes to choose from but I chose the white because I planned on making this hula hoop ornament candy cane colored!

Step 2: Size

Now decide on the size you want your mini hoop to be.

My real hoop is about 36inches in diameter, so I made my ornament a scaled down size. I scaled the hoop down to 1/12 the size of my real hoop so the diameter of the ornament is only 3inches.

This means that you need about 9.42 inches of wire. I rounded that down to 9 inches to make it easy.

Step 3: Round It Out

Once you have your length measured out, cut the wire and bend it into a round shape.

Try and get it as round as you can. For this step, it may be helpful to wrap the wire around a can or round object that is close to the diameter that you want.

As you can see, I used a small plant potter.

Step 4: Secure the Connection

Once you have your round shaped hoop, take a piece of your colored tape and wrap the wire were the two ends meet.

Since you are making a scaled down model hoop you will most likely need to cut the tape you use down to a more appropriate width. Luckily, if you are using a colored duck tape it will be easy to make a nice even slice down the length of the tape. Thanks to the perforated lines on the duck tape!

Step 5: Wrap/Decorate

Finally, wrap the hoop with your colored duck tape!

After creating my candy cane inspired hoop ornament, I found some very pretty shiny ribbon. I ended up taking the red tape off the ornament and re wrapping it with the pretty ribbon with the red tape. The ribbon really adds to the ornament because it reflects the lights on the trees just enough to get it noticed.

Step 6: Finish

Finally, add a little bit of string to the hoop to allow it to hang off your Christmas tree! You could also just hang it right on a branch,

Bonus:
If you have any of those spinning things for the ornaments, attach the string so that the hoop is horizontal to the floor and attach it to one of the spinners. The hoop should then graciously spin around like it would if someone was hooping with it!
