Introduction: Human Body
First things first, this instructable will show you how to make an interactive 3D poster of the human body. Its designed for children from the age 10- 14 years old. The idea is that they learn to understand how the body works. They need to collect different kind of products (of their choice) which has the same of properties as the organs. In some cases it is really hard to find an good product to use nevertheless that is not the mean goal. The mean goal is that the children will think of the different organs with different properties and functions.
Materials
· 1x 100x50x0.3cm triplex plate (every big do it your own shop has this)
· 1x 60x30x0.3cm triplex plate (optional = paper when you don’t have a laser machine)
· Garbage (tubes, tire, balloons, sponge, flatt ball etc)
· Sandpaper (you can get this also in a do it your own shop)
· A laser machine or printer.
· (The obvious things like, a pc and internet, for the paper a pair of scissors)
Costs
About 5 - 15 euro. (for the triplex plates and sandpaper, but it varies on a lot where you buy it)
Step 1: Create a Website.
of course it’s important that the children will substantiate there products. In this case the children need to build a website using weebly.com. You can use weebly even when you have no webdesign skills which makes it fantastic too work with.
Step 2: Complete Your Website Whit Enough Information.
On the website they need to provide the theory behind to organs; like how does it work? What does it do? With properties does it have? To accomplice they need to do some research. The best thing about weebly is that they can write their research on the website and just by uploading or coping a link they can support it with pictures or video’s. As easy as that.
Example (in Dutch): http://makerdecuation.weebly.com/hart.html
Step 3: Create a QR-code of Evry Subpage.
To make it complete they can use QR codes
for every organ on their website and put it on the poster. Or they can make it a game, scan an organ, read the information and the other person need to put it on the right spot and tell why he/she thinks the maker of the poster used that particular product.
This instructable is a way to make the poster, QR codes and website but feel free to approach things differently.
Step 4: Make 1 Document Whit Al QR Codes in Illustrator
Where to begin?
First get some triplex wood one plate of (100x50x0.3cm) as underground. Also get a second triplex plate (60x30x0.3cm) for the QR codes (but you can also use paper).
Then do some research which organs do you want to use?
(We used, trachea, lung, heart, large intestine, small intestine, bladder, liver, stomach, pancreas etc.)
When you have that list, think of free (maybe garbage) or very low cost products which can be used to replicate the organ. (think of structure, function, characteristics, shape or even an metaphor).
Then put everything together and look if you have everything you want. (is everything on the right spot and is on the right way connected?).
If your done with that you can start to build your own website, just go to weebley.com and make an (free) account.
The website is pretty straight forward but if you have literally no experience with making a website and you don’t like trial and error I would advise you to watch this video. (It’s a long video but after that you can do nearly everything) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qu50A7sZPCQ
Step 5: Make a Cutting Lain Around the QR Codes En Print Them.
If you make the website is important that
every organ is on an subpage so that it has their own URL.
(Tip: You can also make a small test about all the organs on the website)
When your done with you website copy the URL of an organ and pasted it on this website. http://www.qr-code-generator.com/
Save the QR code on your pc and do this for every organ you made.
On this point you have a choice or use paper and print the QR code or use the triplex and engrave the QR code with a laser machine. (Which you happen to have of course ;) )
If you used paper don’t forget to get the measurements of the QR code right (we used 7cm x 7 cm) you can work that out in a free program called paint.net (link: http://www.getpaint.net/index.html). The last thing you need to do is to check if everything works so download a QR code scanner on your phone (google play or android store, it’s free). And then finally your done! Congratz with your 3D poster, website and QR-codes. You can use it to teach about the human body but also you can let the kids make the poster by them self, but by making it first for yourself you know every ins and outs of this project.
If you happen to have a laser machine who can engrave triplex then follow along.
The first thing you need to do is to open the picture with the software you’ve got from the laser machine. Then make sure the measurements are correct (we used 7x7cm).
Secondly, but an redline on the outlines of the QR code, this will tell the machine where to cut the triplex.
At last, put the laser machine between
700-1000dpi to make the contrast bigger and use the laser machine on the triplex plate.
When your done with all that, just simply check if the QR works, if it doesn’t work you might sander the QR-code a bit to make the contrast bigger.
(To check if the QR code works, download a QR code scanner for your phone (they are free).
That’s it, if you happen to come across a problem put it in the commits below.
Don’t forget, the poster, website and QR-code are great ways to use to teach about the human boy but an even better way is to let the kids do this in groups on their own. Let them use all their senses to explore the human body.
Step 6: Wait Till the Laser Printer Is Finished.
Step 7: Sand the Glue Away Tot Create a Good Contrast.
When your done with all that, just simply
check if the QR works, if it doesn’t work you might sander the QR-code a bit to make the contrast bigger.
(To check if the QR code works, download a QR code scanner for your phone (they are free).
That’s it, if you happen to come across a problem put it in the commits below.
Step 8: Put Evrything to Gether and Make Shure Everything Works.
Don’t forget, the poster, website and QR-code are great ways to use to teach about the human boy but an even better way is to let the kids do this in groups on their own. Let them use all their senses to explore the human body.
