Hello there, Today I'll be teaching you how to build your very own Hydroponic Planter. Hydroponics, by definition, is a method of growing plants in a water-based, nutrient-rich solution. Hydroponics does not use soil, instead, the root system is supported using an inert medium such as Rockwool, Oasis Cube, Expanded Clay, Coco Chips/Fiber, Perlite, Vermiculite, Sand, Rocks/Gravel, Kitty Litter(100% Clay), Floral Foam, Rice Hulls, Pumice, Wood Chips/Shavings and Polystyrene

Supplies

Any Size Plastic Bottle
Netting(optional)
Fabric
Any form of Growth Medium
Cup/Pot

Tools:

Scissor
Hot glue gun(optional)

Growth Mediums:

Rockwool
Oasis Cubes
Expanded Clay
Coco Chips/Fiber
Perlite
Vermiculite

Kitty Litter(100% Clay)

Wood Chips/Shavings

Step 1: Find and Cut the Bottle

Start by finding a Bottle that suits the size of your planter, then cut the top/middle off of the bottle(In this case, I'm using a Gatorade bottle)

After you trim the bottle it should look something like the picture above, next you want to puncture and cut out the center of your bottle cap

Step 2: Gluing Fabric and Netting to Bottle Cap

After you finish cutting out the center of the Cap, you want to hot glue the Fabric and Netting onto the cap. Make sure to trim away any excess Fabric/Netting after hot gluing

*If you don't have a hot glue gun/or netting you can simply screw the cap on with fabric in between the cap and bottle.

Step 3: Choosing and Adding Growth Medium

I've listed different growing mediums for your planter, they each have their Pros/Cons but feel free to use anything you desire its all about experimentation and observation. In this case, I used Coco Coir and Kitty Litter, if you decide to use kitty litter make sure it is 100% clay. You can get Coco Coir from your local Walmart or Hardware store in the Gardening aisle it is listed as "jiffy pellets".

After you have chosen your growth medium you can start by filling up your bottle with the desired growth medium.

Step 4: Start Planting!

Make sure to fill the base of your Cup/Planter with water and then you can start by planting your seedlings. In my case, I planted Black Cherry Tomatoes and I believe it's ready for a nutrient-rich solution.

Step 5: You Are Finished

You are finished you can add legs, paint it and even add a label to your planters, it can be anything you want. After your seedlings sprout with at least 2 true leaves, you want to add nutrients to the plant's water reservoir which ill explain in another Instructable.
