Introduction: Illuminated Whiteboard

About: Studying to electrical engineer

Hi folks!

I've made an instructional video of this project on Youtube so check it out!

For a more step by step instruction here goes...

So this time I found a white board in the bin and obviously had to do something about it.

First thing that came into mind was "obviously I've needed a white board my entire life without knowing about it" and second thing was "how can I make this white board less... white and more any color I want".

So I turned to one of my favourite three letter words LEDs (ignore the s to get three letters).

Step 1: Materials

For this project we'll need steel angle brackets some paint, LED strip remote control, 5m RGB Led Strip, Extension wire, 18 small screws and 2 hook screws, universal glue and some wood strip for the frame

The first thing to do is to measure the size of the white board and cut the wood strips down, I had mine cut at the hardware store.

Step 2: Create the Frame

Wait for the paint to dry and then measure out where you want to place the remote receiver. Mark on the frame and saw a small notch deep enough for the wires to the receiver to be able to fit through.

Step 3: Wiring

Cut of the end of the strip since the wire and shrink tube take too much space to fit inside the frame

Make sure to only cut where it is marked on the led strip.

Since the strip apparently has common anode you'll have to solder black to positive lead since red wire is soldered to red led marked as R

also solder on the connector for the ir receiver and don't forget shrink tubes!

Step 4: Strips

The strip have some crappy glue stuff on the back that seems to be weaker than post-it glue, so use some universal glue to make sure the strip really sticks to the frame. I then used some wood and clamps to apply pressure to the strip and waited for the glue to dry.

Step 5:

For this board we figured that 18 screws would be enough to hold the white board.
Screw in the the screws, connect the IR-reciever and 12V power and try it out to see if it works.

Step 6: Finished

check out the instruction on YT for a moving picture version of this and to see the board in action
