Introduction: Immense Information on Throttle Position Sensor Symptoms
Even the smallest and the most innocuous things may lead to major problems and is certainly true in case of engines which have become dependent on simple sensor that replaced throttle cable. This sensor may lead to a wide range of issues such as warping speed to unintended acceleration. Throttle Position Sensor can be regarded as the dimmer switch which can be used to increase or decrease the amount of voltage. It is usually positioned on the side of throttle body and is attached with small metric screws. Sensor is used to measure the throttle butterfly’s angle and transfer the information to power train control module. As the faulty or bad position of TPS provides insufficient or incorrect information regarding the throttle angle, you may be required to determine whether it is positioned properly or not by using automatic scan tool to the vehicle.
Malfunctioning of TPS:
The throttle position sensor conveys information to the engine computer of the vehicle regarding throttle status. This information will be compared with other aspects such as vehicle load, speed and engine temperature of the vehicle. This sensor either relies on the potentiometer or sometimes on the switch to send signals of changing voltage to convey about throttle position. However, there are chances for this throttle position sensor to get worn out or failed similar to other component. Even non-proficient services may lead to malfunctioning of sensor. In such cases, a check engine light will be activated while the car lacks behind in its performance.
Wrong notifications:
One of the major Throttle Position Sensor Symptoms is that it considers the throttle as Always Opened or Always Closed. Even a small shortage in the sensor will produce always open error that results in heavy rich fuel mixture. On the other hand, if the sensor shows always close signal to the computer, it creates heavily lean fuel mixture.
Failure of TPS:
In some cases, the throttle position sensor could malfunction right from its installation. The wrong installation may end up in poor performance of the sensor. The incorrect setting may tend the computer to demand minimum fuel mixture and this would result in poor performance of the engine right from the purchase of the car.
Start up and misfire problems:
The throttle position sensors should send constant flow of data about every adjustment in the throttle to the computer. If the sensor fails to relay the appropriate signal to the computer, your vehicle may experience start up problems. In some cases, the car misfire in gears if a loose connection is developed in the sensor.
How to trouble shoot?
If you have realized that there is something wrong with throttle position sensor, you have to trouble shoot the problems. Of course, you should trouble shoot it only after checking all the components of the throttle for perfect function. Whether the throttle has stopped or the cables kept the throttle opened, it is not possible for the sensor to inform your computer to put it in idle.
