BMW is known for their halo rings and that look has been increasingly popular that there are all sorts of mods and upgrades available. LED angel eyes are the way to go for all BMW models. This is an installation guide to show you how to remove your headlights to install a new set of BMW LED angel eyes.

You will need:

  • Torx bits
  • 1/4" ratchet handle
  • 8mm wrench
  • masking tape
  • sand paper
  • oven
  • paint
  • latex gloves

STEP 1:

Remove the headlights.

If you've got anything in the headlight, like the angel eye bulb, blinker, HID bulb, or anything else, you must remove them. This headlight is going in the oven!

STEP 2:

Remove the screw near the blinker.

Preheat your oven to 200F and put the headlight in your oven for no more than 10 minutes. Don't forget to remove your headlights with an oven mitt!

Pull the lenses away from the housing from the side that's closest to the kidney grills. Be careful!

There is a small orange LED corner light that you will need to disconnect or you may tear the wires. Unscrew the black shroud and blinker housing from the lens.

Remove the cover from the blinker's reflector.

STEP 3:

Remove the OEM light tube around the projector.

Remove the screw that holes the projector shroud together.

STEP 4:

Remove the corner light. There are four screws around the corner light.

Disconnect the 12V wire and remove the screw from the brown cornering light ground wire. There are four screws at the bottom of the cornering light in the housing that must be removed.

STEP 5:

Remove the two screws circled in red so the projector can be loose.

Remove the two screws that hold the actuator in place.

Disconnect the electrical connectors to the projector assembly.

STEP 6:

Start painting and sanding the shrouds.

STEP 7:

Tint the corner light lenses for a glossy finish. Paint inside the lens with a single heavy coat.

STEP 8:

Paint the cutoff shields.

Disassemble the projector assembly. You can remove the black plastic cage and the screws circled in red.

STEP 9:

Reassemble after everything is painted and dried.

Put the cornering light lens back into the housing and install the inner angel eye ring. Make sure the angel eye ring lies flat!

STEP 10:

Install the new lenses by bending the tabs that hold the lens in place. Place the new lens in the holder. Reinstall the cut-off shield and the lens holder assembly onto the projector reflector.

Reinstall the cutoff shield and the lens/lens holder assembly onto the projector reflector.

Reinstall the cage and the projector assembly back onto the headlight housing.

Plug in the electrical connectors.

STEP 11:

Try to get the outer ring as straight as possible.

Reinstall the projector shroud and angel eye assembly.

STEP 12:

Wire the rings to the H7 angel eye plug.

Reinstall the black shroud and blinker assembly in the lens. Reinstall the screw near the blinker, ballast, computer, and everything else.

STEP 13:

It may seem like a lot of work, but installing new BMW LED angel eyes is totally worth it! LED lights always look better than their halogen counterpart and you'll get all eyes on you once you're out on the road.
