Intro: Instrucable Robot Cake

How my mom and I made an instructable robot birthday cake.

STEP 1: Bake the Cake!

Dig out a recipe book and use your favorite cake recipe. For my cake I used a slightly modified version of Betty Crocker's cake recipe.

2 1/4 cups flour
1 2/3 cups sugar
2/3 cups shortening
1 1/4 cups milk
3 1/2 Teaspoons baking powder
1 Teaspoon salt
1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
3 large eggs

For high altitude (like in Santa Fe), add an additional 2 tablespoons of flour, decrease baking powder to 3 teaspoons.

Mix together sugar, shortening and milk
Add in vanilla and eggs
Combine remaining dry ingredients
Blend well

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 C)
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until you can insert a toothpick into it's center and it comes out clean.

It works best in a 9x13 Pyrex.
Cut the cake into the shape of the Instructables robot and place on the dish you plan on serving it in because once you frost it it will be almost impossible to move it without damaging it.

STEP 2: Mix Frosting

For this step you will need to make frosting (butter, milk, powdered sugar).
Then using a picture of the robot as a guide mix yellow food coloring into it.
Take another bowl and mix red into it.
Spread the yellow frosting over the cake evenly.

STEP 3: Decorate

Now that we have a nice layer of frosting we need to make robot's other parts.
Use the red frosting to make the ball like things on the side of his head and his eyes.
Use melted chocolate to draw on his wheels, hands, mouth, eyes and the thing on his stomach.

STEP 4: Done

Now just add some candles and enjoy!

I hope you will try this and that you enjoy it as much as I did.

Please feel free to comment. I would love to hear your opinion and see your pictures.
