Intertwined Hearts Wire Ring for Your Valentine

Ahhh... here comes that amazing time of the year where everything is red , everything is a heart and everything has love.

Valentines day is just a week ahead and everyone needs to plan a love filled gift for their Valentine. Rings holds a special place among all Valentine's Day gift because it symbolizes a bond of love between the two.

So today in this instructables I will show how to make an intertwined heart wire ring for your valentine.

If you have never made any wire jewelry before , this could be your first project. It is easy and with few tries a perfect one can be made.

I loved the idea of intertwined hearts so much that I made 3 different rings in like 30 minutes. Also if you are under budget, this is an excellent gift Idea :).

Lets make some intertwined hearts ring.

P.S: John Legend's 'All Of Me' is a great song to be sung or played in the background while you are performing the gift ceremony :).

Step 1: Material and Tools Required

Some pliers like round nose, flat nose (lined with rubber or felt if possible) and wire cutter
A mandrel or some round object of varying thickness

Two types of jewelry wire (copper, steel or silver your choice), see image above to have an idea:

Thick wire: 18-20 gauge

OPTIONAL Thin wire: 30-32 gauge (for wrapping)

MANDATORY : Lots of love in your heart :)

Yup that's all you need :).

NOTE: In this instructables I will show you two methods for wrapping up the wire ends, one of the method uses thin wire, that is why I have listed it as optional

Step 2: Making the First Heart: Beginning of a Relation

See images above and follow:

1. Take thick wire about 8 inch
2. Pick long wire and bend it to find its middle.

3. Wrap the wire from middle around the mandrel's top (the thin part) or a pen like object, target to make a loop around 0.5 cm diameter.both ends of wire should intersect each other.

4. Take out the wire from mandrel and hold the loop from middle using flat nose plier.

5. Using your hand bend the wire from left by pulling it upwards, notice the heart shape is forming.

6. Release the plier and pull both wires intersecting each other such that they form the heart shape.

7. Use your finger to squeeze the heart , it you think it is bigger. This will also help to shape the heart properly.

8. Using flat nose plier, bend the wires downwards from where they are intersecting such that they form legs of the heart , see image.

9. Wrap this arrangement on the mandrel for the size of ring you need.

10. IMPORTANT: Make one size smaller than usual because the ring will be somewhat adjustable in nature because of the intertwined hearts

11. You arrangement should like last image above.

Now this heart is ready to be intertwined with another heart in love. Lets bring that other heart close...

Step 3: Making of Second Heart and Intertwining

See images above and follow:

1. The process of making the second heart is almost same, we just need to make sure that the wire is intersecting the first heart
2. Pick one of the wire ends and put it inside the heart.
3. With this wire coming out from inside the first heart,wrap the wire on the smaller mandrel or round object.
4. Remove the mandrel and follow the same procedure for creating the heart as in previous step.
5. Once the heart is formed and wire is bent like the legs of heart as in previous step, cut the extra wire from the wire end. NOTE: You will only have one wire end from heart. See image above.
6. Now insert the ring in the Mandrel to make a perfect curved ring for the size you have chosen. You can do this by gently pressing the hearts over mandrel thus they are curved.

NOTE: This step might require some practice

Now we have the bond of two loving heart ready , we just have to make sure that they are always together and intertwined :). In other words , let us see how to wrap the wire ends to secure the ring properly.

You may choose one of the patterns from the next two steps, both have their own beauty or whichever you find simpler to make :)

Step 4: Wrapping Method 1: Wrap Using Thin Wire

See images above and follow:

1. Now grab the thin wire.
2. NOTE: We don't want to expose the end of thin wire, so we will also wrap it inside.
3. Insert the thin wire from behind the heart and bend it parallel to other wires (See image, where I am holding the arrangement)
4. Start wrapping tightly and without any gaps.
5. Make about 4-5 wraps or if you want you can wrap the complete ring.
6. Cut the remaining wire from below and try to push it in between the two wires such that they don't peek & scratch finger skin.
7. Repeat 1-6 for other side. Make sure to wrap the wire joins

You can also wrap without thin wire. Check it out in the next step.

Step 5: Wrapping Method 2: Wrap Without Using Thin Wire

I like this method of wrapping the ring because it gives a minimalistic look to intertwined heart ring. But thats just me :)

See images above and follow:

1. Cut extra wires from the first heart leaving only about 1cm of wire tail.
2. Using flat nose plier bend the wire to 90 degree. See second image above.
3. Adjust this wire below the ring wire.
4. Wrap it around the wire using flat nose pliers
5. Make sure there is no gap.
6. Make sure the wire end is pressed firmly to avoid any scratches.
7. Repeat 2-6 for other side

And that make the union of two lovely hearts complete :)
