Hey y'all!

In this instructable I'll teach you how to make Irish soda bread, with Craisins! This may not seem like such a special recipe but it is spectacular. You could opt for raisins in this recipe and it would work out just as good, but I personally like the taste of craisins better. It's has a quite dense texture, it reminds me of a biscuit in a way. This Irish soda bread would be perfect smothered in butter along with a nice cup of coffee or tea in the morning. If you want to make your own follow the step by step guide or watch the video tutorial below!

Step 1: Ingredients

  • 4 C Flour
  • 2 t Baking Soda
  • 1 t Salt
  • 4 T Butter
  • 1 C Craisins
  • 1 ¾ C Buttermilk
  • 1 Egg (Beaten)

Step 2: The Dry Ingredients

First start off by preheating your oven to 425 F. Meanwhile, grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan. Next in a large bowl add in your flour, baking soda and mix the dry ingredients salt till combined. Add in your butter and work it until in resembles coarse meal.

Step 3: Craisins!

Next add in your Craisins and mix gently until everything is combined.

Step 4: Add an Egg to the Buttermilk

In a separate container or bowl, beat an egg then add it to the 1 ¾ C of buttermilk. Mix together until it is incorporated.

Step 5: Add Wet Ingredients and Mix

Add in your buttermilk mixture to the flour and mix until the dough comes together in a slightly sticky ball.

Step 6: Knead a Little

Take your dough out of the bowl and put it on a floured surface then knead gently a few times. Form the dough into a ball.

Step 7: Score It!

Add the dough ball to an oven safe pan, cut an "X" into it with a shape knife about an inch and a half deep into the bread and approximately 2 inches down from the pan. This will give it a nice "ear" when the bread is done baking.

Step 8: Bake!

Bake about 35-45 minutes. Be sure to insert a skewer to make sure it if done and take out of oven. You want to be sure the inside is baked completely!

Step 9: Cut and Enjoy!

Listen to that crispy golden brown perfection as the knife cuts through the Irish soda bread. (you can hear it in the video tutorial). Smother some butter on a slice of this Irish soda bread and enjoy a coffee on the side for breakfast. Doing this will insure you get your day started off right.
