Italian Moka Lamp

I found a big (8 espressos) old Bialetti moka coffee maker and I thought to use it with the a nice bulb fixture I found for 4 € in a store to make a nice lamp. The result is pretty, and it cost only 10 € plus the fun in a cold Saturday afternoon.

The Bialetti is made of aluminum, so it's easy to modify, if needed. In the end I only had to file a little bit on the lid to house the bulb fixture.

Step 1: Preparing the Moka

I removed the safety valve from the bottom part of the coffee maker (where you pour water) with a pair of pliers as it is simply screwed in. With the pliers I have also broken the top part of the coffee maker to make space for the power chord. Then I removed the filter with its rubber and, finally, unscrewed the small plastic knob on the lid. The power chord can easily enter where the security valve was and exit from the top of the funnel.

Step 2: Enlarging the Opening on the Lid

The opening on the lid was not big enough to house the lamp fixture so I had to use the file to make it wider. Once it's wide enough it's just a matter of building the lamp fixture and voilà: the Italian Moka Lamp.
