Introduction: JELLYFISH'S TENTACLES SIMULATION
Jellyfish's tentacles simulation
Step 1: Inspiration
Jellyfish are soft-bodied, free-swimming aquatic animals with a gelatinous umbrella-shaped bell and trailing tentacles. The bell can pulsate to acquire propulsion and locomotion. The tentacles may be utilized to capture prey or defend against predators by emitting toxins in a painful sting.
Step 2: Analyzing
To figure out the process of the jellyfish movement I analyzed tentacles and oral arms motions.
Step 3: Prototyping
Then, I prototyped the tentacles and oral arms in 3 steps with different materials, such as rubber band, swim cap, stripe, aluminum plate, cardboard, and umbrella, to get the final result.
Step 4: Jellyfish's Robot
The final model is a robot imitating jellyfish's body mechanism feature. When the sensor is covered with a solid dark material, the robot starts to open and close its arms. Subsequently, if the cover will be removed from the sensor, it immediately halts.
