They say that some like it HOT...Are you a heat seeker? Do you love classic comfort foods like grilled cheese? Or are you just a lover of those fried, crunchy and creamy little jalapeno poppers? If you said yes to any of these questions you NEED to try this Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese Sandwich! Everyone's heat level is different, so this Instructable will help guide you to create a perfectly spicy fit, from mild to FIRE!

You Need:

  • 1-2 Jalapeno Peppers
  • 2 Slices of Bread, lightly toasted
  • 2 Tbs Cream Cheese
  • 1/4c Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 2 Tbs Butter
  • Fry Pan with Lid

Step 1: Pick Your Heat Level

Before you start cooking, you need to know how HOT or MILD you want your grilled cheese to be! Here's a guideline to help you prep and prepare your jalapenos for a grilled cheese perfect for you!

Mild: Use 1/2 Jalapeno, Seeded

Medium Mild: Use 1 Jalapeno, seeded

Medium:Use 2 Jalapenos, Seeded

Medium Hot: 1 seeded Jalapeno, and 1/2 un-seeded Jalapeno

Hot: Use 1 un-seeded Jalapeno and 1 seeded Jalapeno

Fire: Use 2 full, un-seeded jalapenos

Step 2: Prep the Jalapenos

First you need to cut off the stems and half the peppers lengthwise. Now, check your preferred heat level! If you want anything other than HOT/FIRE you need to cut out some or all the seeds! If you're de-seeding, carefully cut/scoop out the seeds. Make sure to be careful when cutting these peppers, especially when you plan to cut/scrape out the seeds. The juices will linger on your hands, even after washing them! You might want to use gloves when cutting the peppers, especially if you wear contacts!!

Once the peppers are cut (and seeded if need be) put them skin side down on a pan and bake them for 10-15 minutes at 400F until the peppers are tender and remove them from the oven. Let them cool for 5 minutes or until cool enough to handle and julienne the peppers into small strips.

Step 3: Assemble the Sandwich

Take your cream cheese and soften it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds. This helps make it easier to spread. Spread half of the cream cheese on each piece of lightly toasted bread. Sprinkle 1/2 the Cheddar Cheese on one piece of cream cheese coated toast. Add your desired amount of roasted peppers on top of the shredded cheese, followed by the remaining shredded cheese. Top with the remaining piece of toast coated in cream cheese, with the cheese side facing the inside of the sandwich.

Step 4: Grill That Spicy Cheese!!

Heat a fry pan over medium/medium low heat. Its important to cook it low and slow to melt all the cheese and prevent this glorious sandwich from burning! Once your pan is hot, add 1 Tbs of butter and swirl it around the pan. Place your sandwich in the pan, cover it and cook for 3 minutes. Remove the grilled cheese and add 1 more Tbs of butter. Again swirl the butter around the pan and replace your sandwich, flipped over to cook the other side. Cover and cook for another 3 minutes. Remove the grilled cheese and ENJOY!!!
