Introduction: "Jones" Chairs
The ParKit Jones Chair design is modified from betterblock.org. The chairs are perfect for flat storage and comfortable, portable, resilient outdoor seating. The chairs are a bit low to the ground for older folks, so we recommend using our folding chair design to accommodate that population.
Supplies
3/4in exterior grade AB plywood
Sandpaper (belt sander, wood router, and orbit sander helpful but not needed)
Oil-based wood stain
Polyurethane finish/sealant
Wide brush
CNC Router and AutoCAD
Step 1: Cut Chair Components Using CNC Router
Use the AutoCAD file to cut the chair components out using a CNC Router. Use a 1/4in bit.
Step 2: Sand Components
Use a belt sander to sand around the edges of the components. This makes the chair feel softer and more comfortable.
Use a wood router to smooth sides (follow up with sandpaper if desired).
Use an orbit sander to smooth the surface of the chair.
Step 3: (optional) Laser Cut Logo Into Chair
ParKit chose to laser cut our logo into the chairs (on the upper back of the chair)! If you have access to a laser cutter and want to make the chair personalized, this is a fun option.
Step 4: Stain and Finish Components
Use an oil-based wood stain and a polyurethane finish/sealant to protect the components. Apply using a wide brush.
Step 5: Connect Components
Follow instructions from BetterBlock (see attached PDF) to connect components. Congratulations, your Jones Chair is complete!
