Introduction: Jumping Spider

About: Let's get creative! ☆ Always use safety when crafting! ☆

☆ This instructable is going to show you how to reuse some packaging foam, pipe cleaners, feathers and beads to make a cute pretend jumping spider!
I really like how jumping spiders look, they're so cute! The model I decided to create is based on a male jumping spider (Platycryptus undatus) you can easily make a female jumping spider using this instructable. The male jumping spiders can grow to be approximately 13 mm long. This jumping spider is approximately 11 times bigger than an actual male jumping spider.
☆ This jumping spider does not jump...Please someone make version that does jump and share your build with the rest of us!! ☆
(Note: The image of an actual live female jumping spider, I had taken a few years ago when my toddler pointed it out in our garden ♡ . ☆

Supplies

• beads for spider eyes sizes:
2 = 8 mm round beads silver color
2 = 6 mm round beads silver color or abs color crystals.
2 = 3 mm round beads silver color or abs crystals.

• 2 = soft down turkey feathers, approximately 2 inches in length.

• 4 x 6 inch 1 inch wide = Polyethylene/Polyurethane/Convoluted Foam/ charcoal grey color
• 1 white chalk ( to draw spider body outline on foam).

• 1 pair of scissors

• 4 crafting pipe cleaners, white or grey color ( for the legs):
2 = 8 inches long
2 = 7 inches long

• 2 pipe cleaners 2 inches long white or grey ( for the fangs)

• 1 grey marker ( to color the pipe cleaners).

• 1 black marker ( to color designs on spider body).

• 1= 6 x 6 inches piece of felt grey color ( for designs on the body).

• optional: 2 triplet opals oval shape size: 8mm x 10mm ( to super glue position between the pipe cleaner fangs).

• Gorilla Super Glue ( gel formula).

Step 1:

Loosely based off an internet serch image of male jumping spiders; with the chalk, draw the outline of the body on one side of the foam. Body chalk drawing on foam measurements = head measuring 2.25 inches long back body portion measured 4 inches long.

Step 2:

Cut the body outline out with scissors. And then by cutting little bits off to refine the shape of your spider. Cutting off tiny pieces of the corners and edges so you have a more rounded edges ( this process had taken me around 1 hour to complete). Finished body after refine cutting with scissors measurements = head measured 2 inches long
back body portion measured 3.25 inches long

Step 3:

if you have grey pipe cleaners you can skip this step.

Take the white pipe cleaners and color them grey; with the grey marker.

Step 4:

Based off an internet serch image of male jumping spiders,
Cut about 2 - 3 designs out felt ( 1 piece for the head and 1 for the back portion of the foam spider. Now set them aside for gluing on to the body later.

Step 5:

With the super glue, glue the head and body together. Placing a small amount of glue on the back of the foam head and attaching it to the front of the foam body. Hold in place for 30 seconds.

Step 6:

Take take the toothpick and poke it in to the body close to were the head is glued to the body. Take the 5  pipe cleaners one at a time and poke them in to the hole making sure that the pipe cleaners are evenly protruding out either side of the body. bend the legs to the desired position and shape. The 7" pipe cleaners 1 of them positioned for the very back legs and the other 7" pipe cleaner  for legs in front of the back legs. The 8" pipe cleaners are for the legs in front of the 7" pipe cleaners for the front legs.

Place the 2" pipe cleaners one at a time in to the front of the head about 8mm under were the eyes will be of to the left and right side in the front of the head. Leave 1" of pipe cleaners poking out and bend to desired shape.

Step 7:

With the super glue, glue the grey felt cut outs on to the top area of the body and head, where desired.
With the black marker make designs/ markings on your spiders body and head.

Step 8:

With the super glue, glue the eyes in place on the front of the gead area of foam; based off an internet serch image of male jumping spiders. Glue one bead at a time, position the 8 mm beads for the biger eyes in the front on the head near the top. The 6 mm beads or crystals on the outer side of the 8 mm beads. Then place the 3 mm size beads or crystals on the outer side of the 6 mm eyes on the foam head.
With the super glue, glue the triplet opals on the inside of the pipe cleaner fangs, next to each other angled top ends of the opals slightly towards each other.

Step 9:

Take one whole uncut  turkey feather and glue on top of the head behind eyes on the head area. I had to cut off some felt on top of the head because figuring out how to glue the feathers with out them clumping up with glue was difficult. I glued part of the feather on the head under an extra small piece of felt. Once the head feather is glued, trim a few millimeters of the feather off with scissors to shorten, to your desired look.
Cut the other turkey freather in half. Sick the pieces of feathers one under each fang in the hole were the pipe cleaner fangs are located.

☆ Your done! Successful cute pretend spider build! ☆
