Introduction: K'nex SpaceX Falcon 9 Block 5 Rocket Stages 1 and 2

About: Hello, this is s0200311. I have been building with K'nex for years. I have a lot more projects on my website, https://www.andrew.r3tic.net

Hello everyone,

Here are the first and second stages of the K'nex Falcon 9 Block 5 rocket!

Here are different payloads you can build from my other instructables:

SpaceX Crew Dragon 2 Capsule: Here.

This is in approximately 1:25 scale.

Step 1: Parts Needed

This is a list of all of the parts needed for this build. Feel free to skip this.

RODS, largest to smallest:

1 grey rod

4 grey yellow length rods

73 white rods

26 black white length rods

4 black green length rods

CONNECTORS, largest to smallest:

36 white 8-point connectors

1 black 8-point connector

5 black 7-point snap-on connectors

-------(You could probably use 8-point black connectors, but it might have trouble attaching to the launch tower that we will build in a later 'ible.)--------

1 metallic blue 7-point snap-on connector

1 grey 4-point snap-on connector

4 grey 3-point connectors

4 grey 1-point connectors

CLIPS:

22 black Y-clips

4 ball clips

8 socket clips

1 metallic blue clip

1 tan interlocking clip

ETC:

18 grey blue-width spacers

9 black cap clips

Step 2: Landing Legs and Engines

These are tricky. Putting them together is an art. They don't actually work, sadly, but they look pretty accurate! I hope to modify this instructable to make them work someday.

Step 3: Stage 1

In this step we will build the body of the Falcon. It is easy but repetitive... To attach some of the white rods, you may want to use another rod to help push them in. Also, notice for the majority of the body the white rods are attached in a spiral.

Step 4: Grid Fins

As you may know, grid fins are a type of fin often used at the top of a vertical-landing rocket stage like the first stage of the falcon 9 or falcon 9 heavy. Because we are in such a small scale, 2 pieces is all we need to represent them!

Step 5: Interstage

This is the interstage, the part of the rocket that holds the engine of the next stage. In this model, it isn't actually hollow, and the 2nd stage just snaps in using a grey snap connector, not hydraulics! ALSO keep in mind I made a mistake. The grid fins ARE supposed to be in these photos.

Step 6: Second Stage

This is the second stage of the Falcon 9 Block 5 Rocket!

Step 7: Finished!

This is your finished rocket! Make sure you check out my payloads for the rocket. Links for them are in the first step.
