Introduction: LED Cricket Stumps

This is a project that I made during my engineering degree. The main objective of this project was to create a simple circuit for implementation of LED Cricket Stumps using fewer components and at a low cost.

Step 1: Components Required

  • 9V Battery.
  • LDR.
  • LED.
  • 50K Ohm Potentiometer.
  • 470 Ohm Resistor.
  • IC 555.
  • Cricket Stumps (Hollow plastic stumps will be easier to use).
  • Wires.

Step 2: IC 555 Pinout

This is the basic pinout diagram of IC 555. I will provide a video link to learn more about IC 555.

Step 3: Circuit Diagram

This is the circuit diagram I used to implement the project, you can use multiple LED's in the circuit. If the LED is not glowing properly then try adjusting the potentiometer. Make sure that the LED is connected in the proper orientation.

Step 4: Construction

This is the basic construction that I used, you can place the LED's and circuits where ever you prefer but you should always place the LDR in such a way that the bails cover the whole surface of the LDR when placed over the stumps. As soon as the bails are dislodged the light will fall on the LDR surface which will reduce the resistance and allow the current to flow through the circuit, this will trigger the IC and the LED's will begin to glow.

Step 5: Final Output
