Introduction: LGSF

Light gauge steel frame (LGSF)

LGSF technology is now going to be well accepted practices in construction. It has a higher value in construction market due to its light weight, least cost and faster construction. Design, Supply and Erection of buildings is with the usage of Elemente Light Steel Framing Technology.

Galvanized steel structures are sprouting up quite literally everywhere, particularly in urban areas these days. Steel is also the most widely recycled material around the world. This ensures energy savings and adds to its sustainability factor. The key reason behind their increasing popularity is that steel is no longer confined to being used only for industrial buildings or warehouses. Today, from airport terminals to hangars, mega retail outlets, metro stations, even residential structures, you name it and designers can come up with steel buildings for the purpose. Leading this revolution in steel construction is Elemente. The company has been a trendsetter in the field of light gauge steel frames and construction, having completed many successful projects both in India and abroad. Light gauge steel sheets are manufacture from automobile waste. These sheets will pass through FRAMECAD machine and produce light gauge steel frames.

With both the infrastructure and real estate sectors demanding construction solutions that offer a combination of economy, strength and speed, while also wanting aesthetically pleasing buildings, light steel construction solutions offered by Elemente have come as a boon. The use of steel as the main construction material has caught on around the world in the last decade. In Germany for example, the German Steel Information Centre has brought together 12 manufacturers of steel in November 1999 to establish the ‘Steel Residential Partnership’ to promote steel in dwellings. Similarly, in the USA steel in the housing sector has been popular since 1993. In countries which have got earthquake prone regions such as Japan and the USA, people prefer steel frame houses to feel safe.

Prefabricated load bearing elements in steel provide high quality for reasonable prices and shorten the construction period to a great extent. With its high load bearing capacity, steel structural members are produced as small profiles and sizes, are lighter, without compromising on quality. As the sizes of the load bearing elements are far smaller than concrete, usable space is a lot bigger in steel buildings, which enables more efficient use of the building space, adding to the overall economy of construction. Another key advantage that has been behind the increasing adoption of steel construction is its excellent performance even in seismic zones. The factor to reduce the earthquake force is the lighter weight of steel buildings. The bigger the mass the stronger would be the force of the earthquake imposed on the building. Steel houses are five times lighter than the concrete building, which means that the earthquake force imposed on the buildings is five times lesser. Because of its high strength to weight ratio, light gauge steel framing is very suitable for adding additional floors to existing buildings. According to this system practitioners, it s not suitable for high rise building due to its light weight.

Construction

This light gauge steel frame is developed through a cold-formed process without the use of heat. This process enables steel manufacturers to produce light-weight but high tensile steel sheets. The sheet surface is coated with a zinc alloy that completely covers the steel surface and seals it from the corrosive action of its environment. This results in buildings that are more solid, rigid, stronger, durable and easier to build. Cement boards will attach either side of steel sections. Cement boards will available in thickness of 6,9 and 12mm. space between steel section and cement boards will fill with foam concrete, aerated concrete or rockwool. Foam concrete will have a density of 400kg/cum. Sometimes vapour barriers will introduce between cement board and steel. Commonly using vapour barrier is polythene sheet. Beams and columns will produce by using these same light gauge steel sections. The ground floor wall panels will fastened and held down to the ground floor slab. The second storey floor bearers would then sit on the top of load bearing walls. These bearers would connect and carry the floor joists. The floor joists would in turn carry the floor boards and the wall panels above. The roof trusses would then sit on the wall panels to carry the roof system and roof loads.

1.Buildability

The use of pre fabricated and pre assembled steel sections reduces site work, reduces wastage, and improves quality.

2. Speed

This system requires shorter construction period compared to conventional.

3. Strong but light weight

Steel has one of the highest strength to weight ratios of any construction material. This results savings in foundation required and makes easy handling.

4. Safety

Steels inherent strength and non combustible qualities enables light steel frame houses to resist fire, earthquake etc. homes can be designed to meet the highest seismic and wind load specifications in any part of the country.

5. Quality

A better quality finished houses that is durable and low maintenance

Easy to remodel Design flexibility

Because of its strength, steel can span longer lengths, offering larger open spaces and increased design flexibility without requiring intermediate columns or load bearing walls.
