Introduction: Lady Joker Cane (Easy)

About: A lowly geologist who likes to build stuff.

Rather than plan 2 months ahead with an overly complex costume (soon to be published), my wife only had a short list prepared for the big day. A trip to the thrift store provided a great outfit, and along with some green hair spray she almost had the full kit. But at the end of the day, it is all about the accessories. So I quickly put this cane together, and we are very pleased with the resulting creepy look.

All you need for this project are the following items:

  1. a 3 or 4 foot length of pvc or any kind of cylindrical tubing
  2. white paint
  3. an old doll (or just the head)
  4. electrical tape (or other tape)
  5. the makeup you are using for yourself
  6. green hair coloring spray
  7. utility knife

Step 1: Paint Tubing and Face

The tubing I had was grey with writing, so I had to put on 4 coats of white spray paint to make an even finish. I also taped the doll's hair and sprayed her creepy little face (on her back so the eyes were closed). I did get a little paint on her eyeballs, which gave a sick glazed look.

Step 2: Spiral Tubing and Head Insert

To add the spiral effect, simply start at one end with electrical tape and hold it at a 45 degree angle to the pole. Pull out about 2 feet of tape out at a time and roll the pole slowly. Electrical tape is quite forgiving so if you don't like the angle, simply unroll the bad bit and start over.

To install the doll head, take a utility knife and cut a slit from the attachment hole towards the back of the head. The length of the cut will depend on the size difference between the hole and the pole. You may have to take a chunk out too. Please be careful, you don't want to spend Halloween night at a clinic getting stitches. Then simply press the head onto the pole.

Step 3: Hair and Makeup

Put a tissue to cover the white face, and spray the hair liberally with the color.

Do a Google image search for JOKER MAKEUP for inspiration, and apply. It is actually a good practice for the real thing! That's it. I'll update the instructable with the full costume if we can get an approved picture.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
