Step 1: Selecting

Choose patterns with few seams.

Step 2: Sleeves

Cut on sleeves such as dolman sleeves and raglan with a simple seam are far easier to sew than a set in sleeve.

Step 3: Fit

Looser fitting garments are more successful until you know the tricks to making the pattern fit your body.

Step 4: Pants & Skirts

Elasticized waist on pants and skirt are easy and fit- forgiving.

Step 5: Details/Technique

Its perfectly OK to skip some of the detailing on your first project. Details such as pockets, zippers and tabs can always be mastered later.
