Intro: Lego Candlestick

How to make candlesticks shaped Lego brick.

Idea: I created these candlesticks to make homemade Christmas gifts.

Description: Made of medium (MDF), they welcome one, two or three candles (tealights). They are nestable and flexible to create all possible combinations! They are painted white or black and covered with clear varnish.

Material: MDF 15mm, paint, varnish, wood glue

Tools used: Circular saw, miter saw, drill press with hole saw, router, hand tools ...

Video:

STEP 1: Cutting Parts

I used my table saw to cut 6 cm slices.

Then I cut the lengths of 6, 12, or 18 cms with my miter saw. I attached a stop to have pieces of identical size.

STEP 2: Drilling Holes

For the locations of the candles, I used a 40 mm hole saw attached to my drill press.

Again I used a stop to guide the parts and chainwork.

Tip: To sand the inside of the holes, I glued a piece of sandpaper on a PVC pipe !

STEP 3: Gluing

The elements are glued with wood glue and sealed with clamps

STEP 4: Rounded

All sides are sanded and then I use my router attached under the bench to round the corners.

STEP 5: Gluing of the Studs

I created a cardboard template to identify the location of the studs, then I glue them with wood glue.

STEP 6: Painting

The candlesticks then receive:

  • 2 coats of wood primer
  • 2 coats of paint (black or white)
  • 1 coat of clear varnish

Light sanding is done between each layer

STEP 7: Done!

Done! I then added the tealights and made gift packages to offer Christmas!

I also kept some to decorate the party table.

That's such a fun design! I wonder if it would work to make a raised circle with a hole in it to put the candles in too :)

Thank you Penolopy! Yes why not, we can imagine lots of combinations!
