Introduction: Lentil Treat

About: I'm a licensed K-8 teacher, current stay at home mom to two lovely little ladies! We're always looking for new ways to use our brains, work our fine and gross motor muscles, and stay busy while having fun!
A simple, inexpensive, protein-packed treat for your flock. I make it for my Coturnix quail, but it's great for chickens, too!

Step 1: Soak!

Put about a cup of dried lentils in a quart sized Mason jar. Fill the jar with water and let soak for an hour or two, then drain.

Step 2: Wait!

Let the jar sit on your counter for a few days. Two or three times a day, fill the jar with water, swirl the lentils around, and drain. When the jar is full of sprouted lentils, they're ready for your birds!

Step 3: Treat!

Give your backyard bird buddies their protein-packed treat! They might even leave you a gift of thanks 😊
