Introduction: Lets Play Together
Let's Play Together is a smart toy project designed to create a deeper emotional connection between children and their toys. The toy reacts based on the child’s level of interaction, measured by proximity (distance). When the child plays closely and actively with the toy, it produces happy melodies and cheerful blinking lights, showing joy and engagement. When the child stops interacting or moves away, the toy responds with slower, sadder tones, expressing loneliness.
Pedagogically, this system aims to reinforce emotional awareness, empathy, and cause-effect understanding. By observing the toy’s reactions, children develop the ability to recognize emotional responses and associate actions with emotional feedback. This fosters emotional intelligence and a stronger sense of responsibility toward relationships and empathy in a playful, age-appropriate way.
Supplies
- Arduino Uno board
- Ultrasonic distance sensor (HC-SR04)
- Buzzer (active or passive)
- LED
- 0.96-inch OLED display (I2C)
- Jumper wires
- Breadboard
Step 1:
- The ultrasonic sensor continuously measures the distance between the child and the toy.
- If the child is closer than 40 cm, the toy reacts with happy tones and fast LED blinking.
- As the distance increases beyond 40 cm, the toy becomes quieter and slower, simulating sadness.
- The OLED screen displays the real-time distance to encourage visual learning and curiosity.
Step 2:
- To develop a smart toy that strengthens emotional bonds between children and their toys.
- To create interactive behavior using distance and sound feedback.
- To use simple electronic components (Arduino, sensors, buzzer, LED) for real-world emotional interaction modeling.
- To support social-emotional learning through responsive play.
