Introduction: Linear Actuator - Simple !

I needed a simple linear actuator for a workshop and thought I could make something with very few items on the BOM, very easy and fast to assemble and adjustable in size.

So, if you don't have a 3D printer of the size I do, then reduce the actuator length - 3D source file is provided here ;)

Supplies

You need a couple of mechanical components. The one that might be the most challenging to find would be the 15mm aluminium tube I guess... Here in Denmark they can be found numerous places including Bauhaus.

You'll have to either print or get someone else to print the 5 3D printed parts.

Step 1: 1.. 2.. 3.. and You're Done !

Okay - maybe it's not that simple... However, you really only need to 3D print 5 parts and then follow the video here to assemble the actuator :)

One of the neat things is the way the motor is assembled with the actuator body (I think) !


Printing tips:

The actuator body must be printed vertically, so it'll be a tall print ! The top of the body must be where the motor is mounted. Print "nutcase" with support and the rest without support and I suggest using ABS for durability (I don't want to start a discussion around what is most durable).
